Some years ago, long before his accident, Christopher Reeves used to spend a lot of time in the UK (film work, family etc) and one of his hobbies was gliding. One day, at Booker (Wycombe Air Park) he was lazing on the grass with a mixed bunch of other gliding enthusiasts, occassionally helping with a launch of some ancient old glider, when he exclaimed,
"I really like Britain. Most of all like the British attitude. Here you are with your trusty old equipment, aging but carefully maintained, happily and enthusiastically enjoying your hobby and helping eachother."
"In America I don't think people are nearly so happy. They are too consumed with wanting things and then, when they've got them, they're still not happy, they want something better. They always want the latest equipment, they want the stuff that all the magazines say is the best; and why? Usually they buy things they don't really need, with money they don't really have, to impress people they don't really like."
"True happiness is wanting what you've got - not getting what you want."
Only a philosophical thought - perhaps not one that keeps Porsche dealers in business.
