I need a wastegate desperately!!!!

ORIGINAL: random hero
but as the car will be used on the road as well as track use i need something thats drivable for every day use !!!

As you start to modify them they become much more driveable compared to standard. In standard form they are quite laggy and have a split personality of no power, no power, no power. Then all of a sudden the turbo cuts in and OH MY GOD I have power [8D]

A DPW with chips to suit smoothes that all out and whilst much much faster its also much more driveable

I have an adjustable single-port wastegate fitted to my 944T "¦ currently with a 10psi spring set. I have a 17psi set in the garage. If I make the change, what effects can I expect?

Seems low [&:] the factory boost level for a 250bhp car is 12psi

If you fit the 17psi spring but have not made any change to the ECU then you will run dangerously lean as the turbocharger pumps in a lot more air but the ECU does not match it with fuel. Most of the off the shelf chips are designed to run up to 18psi and still deliver the correct amount of fuel to be safe.

Whatever you do I would recommend having it tested at a rolling road afterwards where the Air Fuel Ratio can be plotted and you can see if you are lean or not. Running too lean will soon burn away your headgasket at the very least

I can see this power struggle getting out of hand ,same thing happened years ago when i bought an opel kadett 1.3SR (german import)same as the astra SR but without the 1.6 engine. Seemed ok for a bit then i fitted a 1.6 engine which felt ok but i wanted to go faster so i fitted a 1.8 astra gte engine on normal carbs which again was great for a while till i wanted to go faster again. I ended up fitted a ported/polished head ,rebored block (1.9) an ENEM hi-lift cam and a set of twin 45 webers with electric fuel pump. I think i ended up with about 165 bhp which in 1995 wasnt bad for an astra, trouble is for the money i spent i could of bought a 2.0 16v astra (150 bhp) for less money and less hassle. But at least i had some fun doing it !!!

I've got the Promax Level 2 and it is very drivable. Yes you still get lag but because it comes in earler than stock and when it comes in it is not an on/off behaviour you can easily adjust your driving style to compensate. I'm running a boost gauge needle widths over 1 bar boost with my set up and am quite interested to see what I get on the dyno next month. If I get 280bhp i'll be happy.
