I think this is going to hurt

Today I am going to get some estimates for body work repairs. Specifically rust.

Passenger side front wing on an 82SC.
Rust bubbles around the headlight - two breakouts of about 50p size
Rust inside the filler cap area which I can put several fingers through
Rust breaking through next to the battery (but not battery acid related)

I'll report back later but for the entertainment of all - feel free to make some estimates while I'm gone [:(]

keeping my fingers crossed for you,

just think what a wonderful well sorted car your going to have by the end of it......once you can afford to eat again[;)]

Front wing, battery tray and paint front end to match metallic - £850-900? Will depend on where you get the wing, if you can get a good used one from a breaker then my guess would be about £600 for body and paint and then the cost of the wing on top...[&:]

The problem is once you start you can't stop!!!! and in anycase that's the rust you can see what about the stuff you can't. My guesstimate £650 for new wing £700-£1k paint and associated labour . But then I'm well out of touch with these things.

I have to go back and check with the Porsche guy on Friday but the quick verbal quote I got from the non specialist was about £1K including wing but past experience suggests that'll rise once the wing is off. I'll report back when I've spoken to on Friday. This is Langley Autocraft btw - did both my sills + kidney bowls a few years back. I'll post pictures of the rust as well [8D]

Ah, London/South-East bodyshop prices - I remember them well and miss them not a lot [8D]

As the wing is attached to the bumper there is a fair bit of time taken to remove and refit the parts, you could save some money by removing the wing and associated parts yourself and then trailer the car there and back. This will also give you the opportunity to attend to any other issues such as broken horns, clean connections you can't usually easily reach, do some localised cleaning and treating of surface rust and replace the tatty old bumper bellows with new ones. If you are unsure how to do this post here or better still get the bodyshop to guide you through the process, I'm sure they don't relish stripping and re-fitting these old cars.

New wings are circa £550 good second hand are from £250 if you can find one. N/S is harder to find than O/S. One Porsche breaker in Wembly said he had them but wanted £300+ for them. The wing is only screwed on and I think the fuel filler neck is seperate to it. Baz

You know, especially i fyou are located in the South of Brittain, let me enlighten you a little regarding taking a ferry to France or Belgium.

Body shop labour rates: from 40- 60 (but in euros)

Indendant porsche specialists......35-45 euros and hour.

Porsche breakers in Belgium, France and Holland abundant.

I can provide specifics if you want.

Regards.

Well Bert - if they can provide courtesy cars which they don't mind me bringing back to the UK it might be an idea :) But for the moment I'll have to stick with someone local if I get it done this year.

And this is the last and most scary [:-] Makes you wonder how much more is there under that wing

a) Absolutely nothing - it's fine , no problem . cost you nothing sir

b) There's loads - just starting to eat into several other panels

c) Sell the car to a mug

My wing has gone the same as yours around the headlight and under the headlight. Is your last picture under the bonnet by the battery? Looks quite bad and if it is thats not part of the wing. Dansk do a lot of repair panels for the 911. Their web address is WWW.jpgroup.dk if this is any help. Bert Berlyn does Dansk panels.

April 911 Porsche World has a new running report with an SC owner who had a wing and glass out respray - Crispin Manners and ANO Bodyshop. If I recall, it was circa £2,300.

Anyone want to buy a nice cheap (PLASTIC) Lotus. They don't rust buy they do make up for it in other ways.

Hi Richard,

I've recently had a quote for some rust repairs, namely sills, kiney bowls and rear O/S wing, I have posted the full details on the 3.2 Carrera Forum under, beleive it or not, rust repair.

Have a look and see if you think it expensive, or not! £3,671.91.

by the way I am going to get a quote from Langley Autocraft for the same work, If you don't mind me asking, how much did they charge you?

PS I'll let you know the different quotes when I get them.

Cheers Glenn.

Don't have the quotes but here's a few bills

'01 - N/S inner sills and lower rear quarter £263
'02 - N/S kidney bow , door shut and area - £1156
'03 - O/S kidney bowl , door shut , rear sill and area - £1288

All prices incl all bits and labour and vat.

Owwwwwww. Something tells me that at 23yrs old I'm in rust chasing mode.

Richard

Your figures are about double for the kidney bowl/doorshut work that I paid last Spring to the bodyshop guy I use. Good job done and can't see the repairs. I did source the panels myself so I guess that should be added but they weren't a fortune.
If you want his name tell me.
