Immobiliser probs

This is a tale of woe, my other half has a 98 Boxster, it has stood for too long and the battery has run flat, to compound this, the drain holes beneath the hood became blocked and the passenger side was waterlogged..... yes including the immobiliser underneath the seat.

I tried to jump star the car initially, all that did was to set off the alarm. I have disconnected the leads and charged the battery. It did start a couple of times, however the remote central locking does not now work. The red light on the interior door locking switch is constantly on and the car will not start at all.

Any ideas.

That's about as much help as a chocolate fireguard.................. anybody out there apart from v knowledgable from california (sic) with constructive advise.

Try drying it out carefully and..........pray HARD.

If that doesn't work, you are in to a new alarm control module, remotes, key transponders, and programming. Not really a DIY, so that's why the need for prayer, unless you enjoy open-wallet surgery.

OK lets have some fun here... if you think that was an insult, you need to get out more. Unfortunately these forums seem to be inhabited by cretins who wallow in their own self importance. All normal people such as I require is, honest, straightforward guidance and advice. We do not need to know what car you drive, how far, how often and what you are wearing, nor do we need to know that you are, variously, self describing yourselves as 'brilliant' 'gifted''technically superior etc. My advice, should you want it is to move over and let some help flow from the keybopards of those who give it freely and without the need for self-congratulation.

As I said, people here are trying to help you.
Just a little info to clarify things, Jeff "Toolpants" tag was not given to him by himself but by one of the other Admins on this forum (himself a Former elected Director of this club, a former Boxster Register Secretary, and currently my Boxster Register Assistant) ... Toolpants has FREELY helped many many Porsche owners around the world. If he says "try X" - I'd try it.

I would rather try to help this guy try to get the car working properly.

When moisture is introduced to the control unit under the seat then there are problems. This is not uncommon do to the fact that when water enters the cockpit due to clogged drains gravity pulls the water to the lowest point. The lowest point is under the seats, where Porsche wisely put a control unit. But there are no water drains under the seats. This control unit is not sealed from the elements.

This control unit is not just for the immobilizer. It is also for the door locks, windows, remote locking, and god knows what else. It is like throwing your computer into a pool of water and then turning it on, and expecting the computer to work properly.

If this is fresh water and you try to salvage the control unit as quickly as possible then you might get lucky. You must act quickly. If not, then you do need to pray, as it is expensive to replace the control unit. Read the links on how you might be able to salvage a control unit.

I registered on this message board 4 years ago. I was registered a a non member. Do not know how or what was changed. I am not a member of PCGB, and will never be.

What Tool Pants doesn't know isn't worth knowing, and he's always extremely helpful.
I suggest you get your facts right before you mouth off in future.

First class advise as always from both Richard, Mark and Toolpants !!! [8D]

I had the same problem with the drip tray having a hole in it and the rear drain plugs been blocked.

I think this forum should only be for members of PGBB or VIP guests such as Toolpants and others, but that's another thread...

I'm the first to help anyone out, but to insult such highly repected people makes my blood boil !
He should be banned from this forum.

Regards,
Chris.

Hi guys.

Much as I have enjoyed being part of your 'Love-in' at times I felt like an extra in the 'volleyball' scene in Top Gun. Know what I mean !!!!!!

I took the trouble to speak to a Porsch mechanic today, funnily enough he did not tell me what car he drove, or if he went by a sexy nickname. he did however give me honest, straightforward advice, no links, no need to resort to prayer etc.

So I bid you all adios as I venture onto forums new, hopefully to find similarly minded individuals as you.

As they say 'real men Do NOT drive a Porsche' !!!!!

He was hanging around in the Boxster forum area for a good hour or more after he posted his "Adios" message as well [:D]

What a shame that someone that enters a dedicated forum doesnt understand we are all proud of our cars, telling people what car we drive etc is not simply restricted to Porsche forums - they all do it.
I do understand that he is of low interlect otherwise he would have seen the advice from Toolpants as constructive, clearly he has an anger management problem as he feels the need to insult others - without any reason, perhaps he should seek councelling.

I dont think he should be banned from this forum - perhaps when he realises just how offensive he comes over as he may reflect on that and do something about it.
Must say i was impressed by Toolpants reply - supplying him further advice and guidance - after being insulted - shows a maturity Spender1 should cultivate

No matter which forums you use, you will always come across people who think your only role in life is to help them, and then get bolshy if your advice does not meet their criteria. Best ignore them. Lets face it, anyone who labels a Porsche as not a man's car cannot be taken seriously.

At least this forum does not have a schoolteacher marking spelling mishtakes with a red biro! [:D]
