Independent or OPC

Hmm.. well, according to my quote the plugs are down as "additional maintenance" and not part of the major service (which comes in at £635 + VAT). The plug replacement alone is shown as £643.90 +VAT -i.e more than the service itself! Then there's the bits and bobs like brake fluid etc. Think I will get clarification on the plug price.....

all true. The plugs are additional. But I was quoting the Porsche book time for a major with fluid and plugs. ;-)

Yes, understood Joe. However, that makes for some very expensive parts - 5.5 hours labour + parts = £1400? From the Porsche fixed service menu the Major is £625 (including VAT and parts) and the BF change is £95. Does that mean the plug change takes round 4 hours and they do the rest in 1.5 hours?

Well the plugs cost about £100-£150 and the rest is labour. Allowing for vat I suspect they are charging 3 hours at £150 per.

The major service is an oil and filter change and not a lot else from the paper work. So I think they are claiming a lot of labour that isnt there.

Interesting, the plug change cost on a turbo 4 years ago was only slightly more than the itemised cost I'm being quoted now for a plugs change on my C2. Does this mean in another 4 years time I will be paying £600+ for an OPC to change the plugs!

I am minded to stay with the OPC for this service, but has anyone moved to an independent at 8 years?

I am seriously considering having the OPC do the major and having my gold tech do the plugs and brake fluid.

That way way I get an OPC stamp in the book and take care of the advisory plugs using much cheaper labour.

Make sure you have the brake fluid change stamped in the service book. It is on a separate page to the bi-annual service stamps. My PC always forgets.
