Wiggle it & pull hard.
There is a small plastic flange at the bottom l/h corner that will snap, but you can superglue it back on & this does not seem to have an adverse effect on the fit, when you replace the cover.
The snorkel itself also needs a fair bit of pursuasion to get it out.
Good luck.

I read the fitting intructions and got cold feet. The 996 looks straightforward however the Boxster looks like major surgery is involved. Perhaps you could give me a demo at Eynsham ? A bunch of us are camping overnight a la Le Mans so hopefully I' ll see you there.

The 996 is a doddle as long as you don' t drop anything (like an old pair of socks or a handful of gravel) into the intake.
But then that would be a crazy thing to do.
Rule No. 1 - Do not work on your expensive car whilst coated in gravel.
There are probably others but this seems pretty important.

Its really up to you. I`d try as the poster above says or replace the OEM panel filter with an aftermarket one such as PiperX. You`ll get an induction note from that and it won`t mean dismantling your car.
Good luck
