***INSURANCE CONFUSION!!***

I'm taking delivery of a 9974S in March.
My original 'estimate' from Elephant was circa £700.
When insurers ask you about modifications and options, etc.
do you need to run through the whole options list you've chosen, eg. adaptive sports seats, sports shifter, sports exhaust, etc. or just say no mods?
I mentioned ad' sports seats & the PSE & the quote at today's prices suddenly jumped to £3,500!!
They also said that in a total constructive loss situation, they wouldn't pay out for any of the options.
Your opinions & views would be greatly appreciated.

Erm, modifications ONLY apply to those not supplied by the manufacturer from new at build - NOT the options that were fitted to the car. You are presumambly insuring the car for the total value you're paying - which includes the options - so there should be no issue?

Modifications should only apply to those put on the vehicle after manufacture.

So you'd think but no, not at all. There are a few companies that can mug you in this manner claiming that your car is more likely to get nicked with factory fitted extras, and hence load the premium accordingly, and will not pay out more than basic list.

I was so nearly shafted by Norwich Union Direct who were about to NOT pay out following a traffic light incident a few months ago as the vehicle inspector said it had non standard wheels. I pointed out that the 19" Carreras were a factory option but their computer hadn't listed them as being so (I think they still had the 986 data base). Long story - short, they eventually paid after I had spent half my life on the phone to India. Never again. Never in a million years would I use NU again.

I eventually got Adrian Flux cover when NU expired which recognises the value of factory fitted extras in the event of a total loss payout.

When asked, always state "factory fitted extras" as if you don't, they will leave you high and dry in the event of a claim - a few extra hundred quid now is a wise investment versus being stuck with a £xx,xxx bill a year down the line. £3,500 sounds ridiculous though......

Forget Elephant. Go for A. Manning.

COmpletely agree. I actually took out a policy with Elephant and on the day of the transaction I was warned about this 'extras' issue. You try talking to anyone there about it!. Cancelled same day and A Manning came up trumps - with free track day insurance :)

Been with Direct Line for years and cant get anyone to beat them now.

Full Comp, Business use, any driver etc £75,000 replacement value etc. £950 pa.

Yves,

Try Privilege next time. It's to all intents and purposes it is Direct Line, but even cheaper. It's owned by the same co., they use exactly the same documents but when it came to my renewal in May they were about £100 cheaper than DL (who I'd been with for a few years too).

I tried other insurance co.'s and nobody was anywhere near!

I always find insurance threads uninformative - as, inevitably, the comparisons are not based on the same data: driver(s) experience, age, licences, NCD, address, parking, vehicle security, mileage, use etc etc. Also, the issue of factory fitted options / modifications is a significant influence - but many drivers do not read (or, perhaps, understand) the terms of the policy on offer. A company that offers a low premium for one person may be significantly more expensive for another - and vice-versa. Additionally, cheapest isn't always best; you get whhat you pay for - not only in terms of cover but also claims handling.

Spot on Delbox, everyone's experience is different.

Thankfully we have only had one cause to claim in the last few years when Mrs Yves provoked by agitated Jnr Yves in the rear child seat reversed into a skip outside the house we were building at the time. Claims service from DL was exemplary.

Will shop around next renewal time as normal and see what the market says.

Try Porsche Insurance Services on 01462 428150. I know they SOUND expensive (and you'd expect to pay extra for mats etc), but they gave the best quote and I've been very happy.

The factory-fitted extras affair is a real rip-off, as many have already said.....

Good luck,

Robert

A Manning; the brokers in Henley?

The same. Ben Allen is the chap you need to speak to. I'm obviously too young at 32 as my 996 costs me £800 per year!!!

Only £800!! I'm a little younger than you at 30 but my 'all-bells-and-whistles' Chubb policy costs me about £1800 a year on my 997 C2S Cab. It was £2500 before I moved out of London! [:'(]

Think I will be giving Ben Allen a call when my policy is up for renewal! [8|]

Just called A Manning insurance brokers in Henley and they have never heard of Ben Allen !

Has he left due to arranging too many good deals ! ?
