Insurance increase - outrageous!!

About 2 months ago a bloke on a motorbike banged into my front wing - details were exchanged and last week, my insurance company called me and confirmed that they had heard from his insurance comany - he had accepted all liability and I was permitted to take the car to the OPC and send the bill to his company. No worries I thought.....

Today I tried to renew my insurance. My online quote was for £905 - so I called Admiral to check a few details and they said "hang on, we can see you had an incident in March". I explained that I was a no fault victim and they said "our calculations show that no fault victims are more likely to have an accident in the next three years". New quote - £1,600. WTF....

Hate to say it, but they come in threes. I had a spate of three people using my rear bumper as an emergency braking assistant, roughly once every 6 months. I began to wonder if I was driving the world's first invisible car.

I managed to bring this run of luck to a halt, though... by driving into a deer. [][][:'(][][:(][:(][]

Take care.[8|]

I take it then that it's all down to individual insurance companies and differing policies. I'd had my new 987 for a week, just over a year ago and had a close encounter with a badger. It completely wrecked the front bumber and the O/S air and water radiators, but after an insurance job by renewal didn't go up. And of course the Ins. Co. has no way of claiming from the badger or it's family.

Yes ... when I tried to open a discussion about fault, they pointed out that I hadn't managed to get details of the deer's address or insurance policy [&:]

Liverpool Victoria.

I've also got the NCD protection and Gauranteed protection (which might explian the situation)

Ta - I'll give them a ring.

I still can't believe the actuarial logic that a person being driven into suddenly becomes twice as likely to have an accident. []

Remember your Porsche can brake far better than most cars, so maybe you need to do a courtesy brake well ahead of time for the person behind you to know you are coming to a halt. [;)]

If you said it was your fault then you would still get a similar excuse. You never win, it is their way of only keeping a handful at minimum price. Remember the days when Black cars had a higher premium because they were harder to see at night? Shop around you will find something better...

OK - spent an hour on the net and the best I can do is Adrian Flux for £1,200. I don't have time to do any more research. Someone driving into me has cost me £300. [:'(]

You're in London, same as me? I pay around £1,000 (but get trackdays thrown in for nowt) from one of the companies that does special deals for PCGB members. I have full NCB and the max excess. If you wait until I've been home I'll post details on here.

The Internet and sites like confused.com are great for basic car insurance but I have always found ringing the best way to get quotes from specialised like Adrain Flux (did you tell them you are PCGB member, I think there is up to 15% discount)... I am afraid you will have to spend a fair bit of time on the phone to get a good deal [:(]

Thanks everyone - I've used Confused and made a few calls but times a bit of an issue so have to bite the bullet I'm afraid. Marcus - thanks for your offer, I'm in EC1 - pls let me know your co details.

Cheers all

If you call Performance Marque, 0121 2480911 - they will give you a years free PCGB membership, so even if the quote is the same you save £50 - same day insurance

Thank *** I don't live in London! Just had my renewal through the post today and they want about £570 with 75% NCD. That's with Liverpool Victoria (through What Car). They have also thrown in full business cover for free (though that might be because I've got my "work" car insured with them as well).

They will get you anyway they can. Some years ago I bought an old banger to tow a jetski around. Couldn't use my full ncd on 2 cars (despite promising to only drive 1 at once [;)]), then they wouldn't give me an introductory discount because I already had a policy []. Insurance for 3rd party only cost more than the car.

I was with LV and they wanted to jack the premium from £665 to £996 at renewal for no apparent reason. I renewed with Privilege for £550. Confused.com was useless, as it told me that Privilege declined to quote! I have also found that you generally get cheaper quotes by doing it online with the insurer direct, rather than going through Confused.com.

All three were in my BMW, when I was already stationary! One was when he thought I'd pulled away but, err, hadn't. Two were drivers who didn't notice the queue in front of them.

Good advice, though - will try and remember it.

I have the Boxster insured with Liverpool Vistoria. Had a big claim last year, 11k, entirely my stupid fault, however at renewal they only increased my premium by about 50 quid. Have protected no claims but still cannot see how they work these things out, especially reading posts above.

Dapster, if you're not sorted yet try quotelinedirect.co.uk
I am in SE London and they were v competitive for the Boxster despite my big claim (have ensured my old Merc through them)
