Insurance QT

I have to renew my policy for my other car ,and to my displeasure I find it has gone up ,this is due to me notifying them that in June some one ran into the back of me ,and dispite of me having not claimed a penny, and the company paid nothing out as the other company paid all the costs I have been penalised .Under law you have to notify your insurance if you have an accident even though it is not your fault, this information is asked by every company when you ask for a QT .So when I renew the Porsche policy in Feb I will have to declare that I have a no fault claim this dispite having a protected policy which alows up to two claims in a year..and guess what no doubt another hike in the premium..Some times honesty is not the best policy.

Brian

Who on earth are you with Brian? I have never had problems with my past insurance companies when I informed the insurers about being bumped - must admit it wasn't with a Porsche but I frankly don't see why you should be penalised.

Harry

Brian,

maybe worth clarifying that position - I believed that you only had to declare any claims made against a policy in your name - if you successfully claimed against a 3rd party and they paid out then you don't have to declare it.

Otherwise, its worth phoning around...although you're probably only paying about 40p anyway [;)]

£2.6p actualy..the point is as I understand you are required by law to notify your insurance of a accident wheather it is your fault or not,if some one offers to pay your costs and not involve the insurance thats a differant matter, all insurance co share data and if you don't declare it could invalidate your insurance.. I am with Bell Direct for the Skoda and Liverpool &Victoria with the Porsche

Brian

PS Just phoned LV they said you must notify them even for a no fault, but did say it should not increase the premium..Bell direct want more even though I have a protected policy

my insurance is up in next couple of weeks as well.. last year it was around 900 with bell, direct,, would be interested in any others people would recomend

cheers
scott...

Guys
I have just renewed bot 964RS and the '72 RS race car with footman james.

964RS on standard policy 6K miles and ageed value £42K for £670 with legal and breakdown recovery

'72 race car was on classic, no mileage limitation, agreed value £20K for £360 with legal and breakdown

The RS would have been cheeper if value wasnt so high

hope this helps!

Well, I'm £1500 for the GT3 - could have got it down to £1200 if I wanted to shirk on cover, and I have the facility to pay extra for track day cover at £79 per day - reasonable considering I'm still the wrong side of 30 for insurance purposes. It was through Bickley Insurance - do a search here for them, Gary Bullen has posted up the details.

Oh, and brian - I think you don't have to declare it because YOU aren't making a claim, the OTHER bloke is making a claim to get your car fixed - you are not involving any insurance policy you have paid for, therefore you are not making the claim - at least that is the way I understood it - you only have to declare if their had been a claim against a policy in your name, regardless of fault.

Wow you must be like 200 years old with 100 years no claims and live on an island with no other people (or roads!!!)[:D]

Have you got there details?

Brian,

My understanding is the same as yours - that you must tell them of any accidents regardless of fault and who had to pay. However, as no claim was made against you I would not have expected your premium to increase. In my own experience disclosure of no fault accidents has not resulted in increased premiums.

Boydy IS 198 yrs old and has been driving carefully for twelve decades, he of course does live as a single man and quite often seems to be in a wee world of his own ( island).
That was a stunningly accurate guess FBS, the Boydtster is very cheap to insure.

Bearing in mind I have got agreed value for the 964RS with a club approved company I dont feel I have shirked on the policy.

As far as my age and location are concerned as most of you know I am a young handsome man with the average points on my licence.

The trick is shop around as when it comes, hopefully not, to making a claim all insurance companies will look for a way out.

Nogotiate!

Spent most of the day phoning around to get a QT. In the end went with Kwik -Fit for the Skoda based on business use £ 220 ,they also quoted for the Porsche but I did not commit on the deal offered £579 xs £500 or £644 xs £150..Liverpool Victoria wanted £706 sx £500 that is who I am with at present. Will spend Tues on the phone again.

See new post cancelled K-F

Just my 2 penneth

I work for an insurance broker and due to the FSA regulations that have just been brought in, the majority of questions asked whilst obtaining a quote will be scripted. With regards to accidents, our sales staff HAVE to ask the following word for word.

"Have you (or any other driver) had any motoring claims, accidents, fire or thefts in the past 5 years, including any incidents that were settled in your favour, or were settled privately?
And are there any claims that have not yet been settled?"

Pretty much covers everything, So all "incidents" should be disclosed.

The advisors, when including protected no claims bonus, should tell the customer that the bonus is protected not the premium.
We have insurers on our panel who load more for non-fault incidents than they do for fault. Work that one out![&:]

Nicola ....Thank's for your input can you recommend a company. Despite what I posted I cancelled the policy with Kwik -Fit as I heard some stories about them .Went with Norwich Union Direct ..And they quoted me happy..not only that gave me a 14 month policy for the price of 12 months.Iasked them to QT on the Porsche same deal 14 months £378 xs £330 I could not beleive it as LV who I am with now wanted £708 ,they said group 20 cars had a 25% increase this year. Can any one come up with a deal.

I'm with Classicline, they advertise in PP

£250 for me and hubby on 1989 911 Supersport, 3000 miles pa, comprehensive on an agreed value basis, and we are both early 30's (but only just[;)])this is on a "classic" policy with nil ncd, I do however have 7 years on my other car. No claims, but 1 conviction.
They have been the cheapest by far for the past 2 years.

Try, First Alternative - £360 for a new Boxster S in Sept 04. Myself and wife as named drivers.

FA is a sister company of ESure who would probably have been cheaper but I had a claim in 2001.

Yep. First Alternative for me too. £376 in Sept. '04 with protected NCD for my Boxster 2.7.
Haven't asked them about track days yet though!!
