insurance recommendations

Hi,

Will need to get new insurance arranged for my 996 C2 in the next few weeks (current insurer is no longer competitive) ... does anyone here have any recommendations ? Any that cover track days too ?

Thanks

Tried all the "recommended" names from the forum (most of which advertise in Porsche Post) and to be honest, the best one was Carole Nash at £873.

However, Tesco quoted £794, and Masterquote (used by Sainsburys as they won't offer quotes themselves on cars such as the 996) quoted me £749!

I'm 39, with an SP30, one accident attributable to the additional driver that the policy covers (the wife), car garaged overnight, 10k miles p.a. and cover is SDP&C with protected no claims, and 11 years NCB.
And they offered the lowest excess of any quote - £400.
Their number is 0800 032 2297.
(I've previously calculated that the SP30 and accident are each worth an approx 15% uplift!)

I have not yet taken out the policy as I've still got a week to go before renewal is necessary, but it's looking unlikely that I'll better this...

Dn't know about track days though...didn't ask.

If you find any better prices / packages, please let me know!

I did a massive trawl of insurance last year when i insured and have a spreadsheet showing the comparisons. 2001 c4 cab, parked on the drive, standard tracker fitted, full ncb protected, myself and spouse, mileage 8000 per year, £680 if you'd like a copy of the spreadsheet let me know and i'll email it to you.
Tried the specialist companies and the regulars Aone not aon and supercar insurance both offered me this price with 500 xs

You are all forgetting the most important factor for your quotes: your Post Code!

Did a reasonable trawl last year but kept on coming up with Norwich Union (varying premiums for the same risk). Ended up using Porsche Insurance Services who were very helpful. Who knows what will happen at renewal this year.

Make sure all these companies will cover the extras fitted to your car - some of the well known cheapie companies don't - and you'll find you arte UNINSURED if you have not detailed each option

I could not continue with my existing insurers when moving from my 944 to my 996 Carrera 2. My best quote was £680 with Academy insurance listed in the Porsche Post. Car is parked on drive, 4k miles per year, 1998 car, NCB protected, alarm/immobiliser, NO TRACKE
R. Post code is for South London, well Epsom/Ewell. Hope this helps.[8|]

While this might affect the price each of us pays compared to one another if we live in different post codes, surely the quotes received are still representative? For example, Masterquote is the cheapest for me living in STx, therefore, I'd expect them to be among the cheapest (if not the cheapest) if I lived in, say, TW1...

And so on...

It is not that simple, majority of the insurance companies you deal with are brokers, with a name like Masterquote I'm sure they are another layer between the actual insurance provider and the broker i.e. they introduce you to brokers and direct insurance companies.

Anyway, say they are a broker: they will search for the cheapest quote for your car in the postcode provided with all the other info you give them but that doesn't necessary mean they can get you a similar cheaper quote for another postcode with the same underwriter. Hope that makes sense... If an underwriter has had a lot of claims from a postcode or area then they may not even give a sensible quote for that postcode at all. When we moved into our new development the Postcode was not on majority of the insurance systems and a number of companies said they cannot give me a quote as the post code is not on the system...

Hi,
Just doing my insurance as well I want track day cover here are the besst options I found:

A manning PCGB insurers renewal 750 ex500 (registered tracks incl free, ex +£750)
Heritage £572 ex600 (PCGB track days free, others £62.50 per track day, ex +1000)
Mayfair £525 ex500 (Tracks days £100 per track day, ex+750)

Heritage one is interesting as it is a modern classic policy, (limited mileage) but you don't have to worry about no claims bonus, etc.

So for me it depends on how many track days I will do in the car, I do about 10 on the bike, so I don't suspenct I will do more than a 2 or 3 in the car.

I tried all the big names on the web and they were between 690 and 850 and obviously don't even know what a track day is.

So these were the best I could find

Hi. I'm clean, I live in a high-rated area, I'm 37 and the car is C2 996 (MY2003) circa 6k miles p/a. I went with Direct Line last year and have stayed with them this year and managed to get my premium down (£612) by increasing my excess (£1k) and putting my (also clean) 31 yr old femail partner on too. Lets face it; if you are unlucky and get a minor prang you probably won't bother using your insurance anyway. Just put your premium up and hope for the best. I think the money is better put towards an extended warranty anyway.

I have a basic MY03 C2 and I am now insured with More than

Premium is £515. I am 40, Full NCB (Protected), 50K legal, 40K Death payout!, second driver (Girlfriend), parked on drive, £400 excess and £60 excess on windscreen replacement, free windscreen damage repair, Courtesy car, breakdown cover, 10K a year mileage, Personal business use etc etc etc.

Thought that was a very good quote. Only asked about engine performace mods, nothing else

Incidently i got my quote from using moneysupermarket.com. Then rang company and bought over the phone. I think Bell direct cam out a close second but the cover wasn't quite as good

Nice one Steve!

Have just tried MoneySupermarket.com and have saved another £70!!

(it originally appeared to be more of a saving, but their summary makes a number of assumptions about the levels of cover being offered, so once you've tailored this accordingly, the cost saving is reduced, but £70 still quite an achievement)

No, the broker is "its4me.co.uk"...(never heard of them!) and apparently the insurer is Chaucer...

Tried "More Than" via their website, but they wouldn't provide a quote...??

Odd, cos the only real difference between me and you (apart from location, I guess) is my SP30, and the missus's accident (NCB intact though as its protected).

I estimate that both add a 15% uplift to any premium...which would make your figure closer to my £680.

Saga ..for the over 50's [:D]....just took out a policy with them £405 with only a £ 100 excess for a 2001 996 c4 cab 5k a year mileage .
I went back to them today for a QT on my other daily drive a Skoda Octavia L&K estate [ no remarks please] full business use kept outside on a drive no restrictions £170 excess £100 when you see this you wonder how they work out premiums the Porsche is worth about 5 times more than the Skoda and is just under half the premium, .
