Insurance renewal - any recommendations?

Porsche Insurance provided me with a good quote with the benefits of:

1. Using a Porsche approved repairer (not just 'their' approved repairer)
2. Low excess of £350 (any quote can appear cheap if the excess is raised)
3. Insurance for two track days subject to (double excess e.g. £700) and advanced notification
 
Its a complete lottery isn't it [:(]

My renewal on the 987S is up next week - Esure £770 (incl. extra premium to cover 19s and PASM), but £50 cheaper than last year. A-Plan were £12 more expensive, AON Associates wouldn't quote when they knew my renewal price.

More Than via confused.com (normally worth a laugh) - £545 - same excess etc etc. Their manager says all extras are covered, provided they are factory fit and on the original invoice. Too good to be true ?? (probably)

A.Manning came in at £690

All above on £600 total xs
 
Prior to getting my C4S a few months back, my previous car was insured with Norwich Union. I called them to discuss a quote on the Porker. A very lovely lady in Bangalore, she knew her cars too! Final quote of £860. This was better than all others listed above, including Tesco Insurance whowere theclosest for me at the time with £1100. I have 6 points on the licence, my wife has my other 6 (pre-Porsche acquisition too)!!! with 6k miles per annum, garaged overnight etc etc.

I agree with the comments re Norwich Union, my 997C2S costs a little less although I'haven't got any points. A positive from them is that they don't stipulate that the car must be fitted with a tracking device, a big saving.

Bet you all heard that Norwich Union announced a 16% increase in their car insurance this morning!

Just renewed my insurance through A-Plan

33yr old & 33yr old wife. Car parked on private driveway in Bristol, 5k miles per year and 3pts (contravention of a Pelican Crossing!)

Premium was £975 with Protected NCB (5yrs)
 
Last year I was with Norwich Union Direct, 9000 m.p.a , no points and for me and my wife it was £964.00 ( 996 cab 2003) This year they wanted over £1000 for the same policy, car always garaged etc. I tried confused.com and got a quote from Asda beleive it or not for £580 protected no claims etc. I took out the policy and guess who underwrites it, yes Norwich Union. It defies belief at times.
 
Yes, it pays to shop around...

Last year premium = £970.00.

After 20 minutes search on the web: lowest quote: £590.00, highest: £1,300.00

Car: 996 Cab. 2003

Depends on circumstances, worth a look: RAC, AA, Kwik-fit Insurance, Tesco, Asda, Admiral, Direct Line

This Insurance dance that is done each year is getting me confused! Can anyone recommend A.Manning over Porsche Insurance or visa-versa?

My insurance is up for renewal and I have these quotes:

A.Manning: £1450 (500 excess) or £1270 (1000 excess) - Cornhill policy (incl. unlimited PCGB track event coverage)
Porsche Insurance: £1430 (350 excess) - Norwich Union policy (2 track days incl)

Both sound tailored to my car but I really can't choose between them. The £1000 excess from A.Manning seems a little scary high given if someone say 'keys' my car I would probably be best paying for the re-spray myself! So that leaves me with 2 very similar policies...

Any advice?

 
If nobody can comment on the 2 policies above, can someone please comment on their experience in doing major or minor damage on track days in their cars?

I haven't done that many track days, so I am a bit weary of a Porsche Insurance track excess of £7500 (10% value) that goes with this policy. The A.Manning policy of £1750 excess for track days seems more reasonable.

If damage done on track days is rare then this becomes irrelevant.
 
It's not so much where I could have the work done (I would never go with any policy that forces you not to go to an OPC), it's more about what the chances are of doing damage on 1 or 2 track visits a year.

I wondered if anyone here had damaged their 997 on a track and if so how much damage there was?
 
I went with A Manning rather than Porsche for exactly that reason. A Manning does support the club in a number of ways. The problem with comparing insurance policies is that you dont really find out what they are like until you have a claim.

I have done 6 track days in my car this year without real incident. Great fun. If you drive within your limits and keep the PSM on then chance of damage is low. If you drive like a maniac with PSM off then chance of damage goes up. Modern stability systems on a 997 (PSM) really do help keep the car pointing in right direction but with sport button on allow enough movement to make it real fun. The track is the only place you can stretch the car with a clear conscience. My advice is go for it and really enjoy the car doing what it was designed for. I bought a second hand set of wheels and put some track tyres on them so as to not worry about tyres which you can eat if you get carried away. Also make sure you cool your brakes after each session with a decent cool down lap.

The only stone chips I have I picked up on the road. I come across more w**kers on the road then I ever do on a PCGB track day where I find most people very sensible and keen to look after their cars. Only day I had any problems was at Silverstone where there were some wild guys I have never seen since.
