Hello All,
I know this has been covered in various forms on a an-hoc basis, but I thought we could try and formalise the thread and produce some sort of insurance guide line. Might save a fair bit of time on the phone and highlight the most competitive companies out there.
I'm in the process of renewing my insurance as you might have guesssed, isn't it such a painfull experience!

Insurer, Vehicle, Mileage, Security, Garaged, Breakdown, Cover, Modifications, XS, Premium
Carole Nash, 86 Carrera sport, 5000mls, Cat 1, Garaged, UK only Breakdown, (Brakes & suspension), £100XS, £354.55

Perf Marques As above without Breakdown Cover, £150XS £351.40 Premium

Feel free to add you own.

Regards,

OK, here goes

Carole Nash, Standard 1987 911 3.2 coupe, garaged, Enfield, 6k limited milage, Cat 1, Breakdown (RAC) & Europe cover, £15k set valuation £250XS, premium £345

Not bad at all considering I pay the same for the wife A class

Can I suggest that you add a couple of fields;

Second car status
Trackday covered included
Agreed Value

These 2 seem to me to be things which make the difference between it being an everyday policy and a "modern classic" policy - typically the biggest cost differences occur BETWEEN the 2 TYPES of policy rather than WITHIN a set of similar policies.

Steve E.
Silver 3.2 Coupe

whoops that's 3 extras (so not a couple).

Anyway my data;

Footman James '87 3.2 Coupe, Bedfordshire, 10k+, Cat 1, off-road parking, Brk-down, lowered, £250 excess, fully comp. std non-classic policy £650 (inc. girlfriend - both no points or convictions)

Age will also make a difference if going for a standard (non classic) policy.

When I first bought the car, I simply got Tesco to quote as my old car had been with them.

Tesco, Standard 1986 3.2 Sport Coupe, off-road parking, Stratford-upon-Avon, unlimited mileage, £12K valuation, premium £500.

Am now with :-

Carole Nash, Standard 1986 3.2 Sport Coupe, off-road parking, Stratford-upon-Avon, 6K limited mileage, cat 1, unsure on breakdown (in AA anyway), £12K valuation, premium £375

WOw i didn't know they made them back then!!![:D]

26years old 7 years no claims and the cheapest was £980 which is £140 dearer than last year!!!!!!

Okay, here goes (or maybe I should keep quiet!)

88 3.2 value set at 13,000.00. 5000 miles limited. 500 quid excess. Garaged. Cat 1. 2nd car (1st car company so no real no claims) I'm 31. I shopped around and had difficulty getting a company to cover me. Settled with Performance Insurance at Gbp 1160.00. Oh, by the way, did I forget to mention my 9 points.........3 points and I'd have only paid them round the 350 quid mark! Dam that accelerater pedal!!

OPS, how about investing in a Road Angel.....it would have paid for itself by now...............................

How about 2 cars on an unlimited basis total value £22,000 for £256 !!

My 1984 3.2 Sport Coupe and my 2002 BMW Alpina.

Go get those cars over 20 years old guys and girls.

AON quoted me just this week. Didn't try anyone else.

Both cars are garaged and I am over 40!

Full NCB. No track cover.

It always pays to check the "added value" or lack of it, like free legal, fully protected (in my case for life), willingness to chase up recovery of your excess when "not your fault". My 964 is on unlimited milage cover, fully protect NCB, garaged, £500 voluntary excess for £336.93 with Frizzells. My 3.2 is with Carole Nash. And like 'Beaky' above is on a 6,000 mile standard Classic policy, Thatcham Cat 1, garaged, pan European cover for £329.

Hi all
Just received my renewal from Carole Nash £610.42.
I'm 42 years old the wife is 31 (both insured to drive). No claims for over 5 years.
The car is a 1988 Carrera Sport Targa, garaged in Wolverhampton, 6000 miles restricted, RAC cover, £250 excess, factory fitted alarm immobiliser.
As the renewal is due I was interested to see Beaky is paying much less than myself for what appears to be the same cover. I have just challenged Carole Nash and they say:
1.My wife is under 35 so that increases the premium. Well take her off the policy then? Ah no it's cheaper with classic policys to include your spouse. You can't win!
2. Beakys' car is older than mine and this makes a large difference. I don't understand the logic behind that as it is at most 2 years older not 22!
and we are talking about classic policys here so the new car depreciation argument doesn't apply.
Anyway those were their excuses needless to say they are not getting my buisness this year, as I have already been Quoted £464.83 by Lancaster insurance, this doesn't include any breakdown cover but I can get the car put on my company scheme for about £60.
This has proved a really usefull thread for me,thanks everyone! Carole Nash were the cheapest I found last year but I didn't look long and hard as they came recomended.
I know people may say that it may not be wise just to go on price, but in my experience you get no better treatment with the larger insurance companys when you make a claim as there interest then is just to minimise their exposure to loss!
Thanks Jon.
P.S. I can't find classicline could someone post their contact details?
P.P.S. Just found classicline and have taken out cover with them,
Just me to drive, 5000 miles P.A. all other details the same plus S.P.30
£265.58 thank you very much! this club has just more than paid for it's self.

Hi all
I can't believe it Carole Nash sent me a renewal reminder today a week after I told them on the telephone I was going elsewhere. I know it is probably a reminder automaticaly generated by computer, but it does make me think my twenty minutes on the phone to them to give them the chance to give me a competitive quote was a complete waste of time!

I have read all the entries so far and there seems to be some good deals out there. One thing to mention is if your car has been 'modified' then Carole Nash and others become stupidly expensive. When I called them they quoted £400 when I mentioned the car had been lowered by 35mm the 'girl' requoted £1100 and said I really shouldn't have wasted her time ! Other companies refuse to insure full stop. Liverpool & Victoria were brilliant not worried about mods and I got a quote for unlimited mileage of £500.

I'd be intrested to hear anybodys insurance quotes for 'modified' cars.

Cheers

modified car = £££...add track day cover and it looks horrendous. Mine should come through in the next few days:-

In the meantime a std 993 with no track days for a 36 year old no convictions living in Sussex is £659 through Chaucer.

Hi

I've posted before on this forum about my mods but in summary the mods to my 1983 SC are

993 V Ram engine
Lightweight flywheel
Turbo suspension and brakes
Cone air filter
H&S exhaust
Braided fuel and oil pipes

My insurance although limited to 2000 miles costs £500 (via Diamond Ins). I'm 29 and live in Canary Wharf with no garage (but off street parking)
