Insurance - who do you use?

Hi Gents,

Insurance is up for renewal (where did that year go?) at presant I am with Adrian Flux, just wondering any suggestions as to who to get another quote from?

Classic cover - 5,000 miles per year - agreed value

Thanks

Try Classic Line - did the same last year and they came out best for my 968. Also use the search on here - there have been quite a few threads about insurance.

Classic Line - very good service. There is a special bonus with their cover that I shouldn't mention on public forums, but let's just say they cover one-way toll roads that many insurers exclude [:D]. I have it in writing.

It would be good to post who insures you and what your premium is so we can all compare . I know everyones different but it does give you an idea who might be doing good deals on what. I am 44 live in East Anglia and I have had two recent 944 turbo policies.

one was 220 pounds ( Footman James) the next was 240 pounds (Adrian Flux) one 4500 miles the other 5,000. I dont know what my next policy will cost of course.

From what I have seen you do pay more to insure a turbo than a lux or 2.7
( no suprise) , no idea re the S2 though ?.

Best of Luck

Mas

i'm on about £160 from RH (S2 Cab, valued at £8k) - limited to 6k miles (i think) but then they never asked for the mileage...
they also do my triumph for about £80
however never had to make a claim yet

160 pounds for an S2 !

I dont know anyone who has classic insurance for 160 anymore

Ping wait one will post in a minute now :), I just checked the RH website and it says that they include Euro breakdown cover on all policies. I do believe I will have to include them in my next round of quotes :)

Cheers

I'm with Lancaster, 3000 miles per year and garaged overnight when within 1/2 a mile of home are the retractions. Cost was a few pence under £125 plus another £15 for guaranteed valuation.

I'm with Lancaster too, paying slightly over £200 for 5000 miles on my 2.7 lux. I requested a quote from Adrian Flux, but never got one.

well heres my take on it .
You never receive a glossy insurance policy document.
All you get from RH is a few inkjet printed sheets of paper which tbh looks very DIY .
its accepted at the Post Office and DVLA and the Police station so it passes muster.

My gut feeling is that RH don't actually pay all your money to the insurers at all unless there is a claim from you. I suspect that the brokers and insurers have 'an understanding' if you like . Maybe RH puts business their way and in return the insurers make a token charge for the annual cover . The full amount only gets paid to the insurers if you claim. That way both the insurers and the brokers get a cut and you get such a cheap price that we keep going back.

I may be completly off-base here but thats my take

On two of my 1960's classic cars I am insured with RH and have never been able to beat their quote, both my traveller and Minor convertible are £60 something a year (including legal protection), 5000 miles. You do have to have a normal insurance policy which is my little Toyota.

I was going to sell the Toyota when the 944 is back on the road, but if RH give me a cheap quote on the S2 it will work out cheaper to keep the little modern car as well! (as opposed to running the S2 on a normal car policy).

My traveller was hit in Dec 2008, luckily the other driver who pulled out into my path, did admit fault and I got my beloved Traveller repaired at a minor restoration specialist. The service from RH and their legal company was brilliant! Their assesor approved the nearly £2K bill rather than write my car off.

There does not seem to be a catch with RH at all. I think they specialise in experienced drivers with excellent driving records for classic car insurance- hence the low quotes.

Thanks for the info fellers, I have been with Adrian Flux for 6 years now time for a change me thinks (they have my Jag too)

Here are the quotes as received:

Performance Marque - £262.25
Adrian Flux - £232.85
Classicline - £197.45
Heritage - £189.50
RH - £129.15

The only difference between them all (other than price) is that RH require a club valuation whilst the others carry out there own and this year
A. Flux want to charge for this.

So thanks guys for saving me some petrol money[:D][:D]

Cheers

Try LV Frizzell, just got my 944 2.5 for £110, limited 5000 miles no valuation reqd just some pics to prove it exists!

I used PerformanceMarque http://www.performancemarque.com/ last time picked up from an advert in TIPEC and PCGB magazines, they covered me fully comp, £200 excess, NC bonus protection, EU cover for 90 days/year, Breakdown and Home Start cover, no limit on mileage use for Social and Commuting to work including driving between different offices. (at time of renewal 47yrs, car parked on driveway not garaged, factory immobiliser no alarm, full no claims and no convictions) Car valued at £5000.
£235 or £210 without breakdown cover.

PS also got 12 months free membership to PCGB when I took out the policy and I believe they give discount to PCGB members.

I used to use RH for my 911 but they wouldn't cover track days so I moved to Classic Line which ended up slightly cheaper and include club track days for free and certain other organisers, CL ask for £312 5000 miles per year, garaged Thatcham Cat 1 alarm. Have had European break down off them before for about £20. Very happy with the service.

For the 944 I went with Aviva - £200 as a daily runner, on the drive, no mileage limits, no alarm required value £2K includes some business use.

I'm shopping around at the moment, as my renewal's due.

Nobody else seems to be able to match T.R. Young's for me. They're only a small broker and they get my insurance from Highway.

I need 6,000 miles or more on my limited mileage (most insurers seem to top out at 5k for a classic) and I need at least £500 of hi-fi equipment cover (also a sticking point for lots of other insurers).

T.R. Young's and Highway are happy with all the modifications on my car too (some insurers class it as a race car now that it has some fibreglass body panels), and have never raised the premium when I add another modification or even after making a (non fault) claim.

I'm being quoted £406 this year, but that's in Glasgow city centre "¦ and includes my wife on the policy who's only just old enough to even drive the car by the standards of many insurers.

I'm with Heritage Motor from Norton Insurance Brokers that even though weren't the cheapest didn't charge extra for all the modifications to the car and included limited trackday cover (bigger excess) I pay £207

I was with Swinton Classic last year at £201 for 40 year old with 5k miles in east Anglia, parked on Drive
This year they wouldn't insure me for a primary use vehicle so I shopped around and went with Aviva who were £280 for 8k miles (but didn't ask my starting mileage!!) with protected NCD, etc

Adrain flux were the cheapest for me. Just did it yesterday for a non standard turbo.

p.s. I'm 26 with 7years no claims 6 points and a 28 day ban.
