Insurance?

If it is your second car - or your wife has a car so you can make it appear as if it is your second car then a modern classics type policy like AON is good. I get a proper fully comp policy, unlimited milage with 4 track days a year (though the excess increases significantly on track days). The only difference is you don't earn any NCB because you are earning it on your other car.

I have the same policy with AON and it gives a great agreed value as well as trackday cover and all my modifications listed. Unfortunatley the maximum mileage I can get is 5k pa because the car is not 20 years old yet [:(]

I can't stress enough the importance of an agreed value for cars like ours.

I am a named driver of my wife's car (our main car) wher she is the policy owner and main driver. So is it better to name the 944 as a 2nd car with AON?

Also, does AON also include Euro breakdown cover?

Charles
check out the Porsche Club Magasine for firms and have a phone around for the cheapest[8|]

I insured the 993 for £435 with ClassicLine, which is good considering I'd just bent the old motor, and am 34. Limited to 5K miles a year though. For my own good, probably.

My S2 which I use as a daily driver, costs me £440 from Sainsbury's as just a "normal" policy, i.e. no mileage restriction.

Most of the places (AON, Heritage etc) that I called will require the car garage kept overnight (for classic car insurance) which I can't because my garage is being used as a store room at the moment.

Anyway, my current one is with Sainsbury (not classic) too just under £400. I may just renew with them again.

Put your wifes car in your name and have her as the main driver and your problem is solved. This is what i've done so i've got the Focus insured with Direct Line with my wife as a named driver and my 944 on the AON modern classics policy. My wife still earns her NCB as most insurance companies these days allow named drivers to earn NCB so she is not affected.

I'm with RH Specialist Car Insurance and only pay £200 per year on a classic policy. It does need to be garaged after 10pm though, but only if parked at home. If you don't have a garage a classic policy might not be an option.

Comes up about about once a week at the moment.

I would have thought this might benefit from being made a sticky as it seems the search function must not be leading people to these threads for some reason. If w ehad a sticky maybe people could add their own deals to it as they come up for renewal.

I did try the search function on this forum, however with the full word 'insurance' typed in the keyword section i received an error code

Search not specific enough, or no result exist.
I know some forums search function works better than others.

Apologies for being another predictable asker of simple questions.

Don't berate yourself too hard Phil - the search function on here is something that no-one understands (or at least no-one I have ever met!) >AwaitsSternWordsFromTheModsForCriticisingTheSite<

The links posted by Simon are a good start, or manually hunt back in the forums; you'll find lots of threads fairly quickly.

Oli.

The search function is frankly pants - Limiting the the time period for threads sometimes helps...sometimes it doesn't.

(damn no chance to send stern words to Oli this time !)

I would suggest Lancaster or A Plan personally but plenty of others out there worth investigating

Try Performance Insurance 08444 935710. Been with them for over 3 years. Or try others advertising in Porsche magazines. I found Internet quotes no use for specialised or classic insurance.

Alan.

I use RH (Richardson Hoskin) and whilst I realise everybodys circumstances differ I don't recall hearing about anyone paying less than the £135 I had to stump up for a renewal last week. (5000 miles, garaged, 43 yrs old (me not the car) etc) Glad to say I've never had to claim but have been with them for 19 years now.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The stubling block seems to be a garage!

Been quoted £214 by lancaster and £248 with chaucer but both seem to have small print that the car must be garaged at night.
Both these came back on comparethequeercat but then rose dramatically when transfered to the actual insurer, or lancaster said over the phone they could not insure.

Not bad for a 35yr old female driver ( my wife ) with full no claims!

Next best is quickfit (yes i know) at £480. (£550 to pay monthly)
