Comes up about about once a week at the moment. http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=625666 http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=622202 I would have thought this might benefit from being made a sticky as it seems the search function must not be leading people to these threads for some reason. If w ehad a sticky maybe people could add their own deals to it as they come up for renewal.

I did try the search function on this forum, however with the full word 'insurance' typed in the keyword section i received an error code Search not specific enough, or no result exist. I know some forums search function works better than others. Apologies for being another predictable asker of simple questions.
Don't berate yourself too hard Phil - the search function on here is something that no-one understands (or at least no-one I have ever met!) >AwaitsSternWordsFromTheModsForCriticisingTheSite< The links posted by Simon are a good start, or manually hunt back in the forums; you'll find lots of threads fairly quickly. The search function is frankly pants - Limiting the the time period for threads sometimes helps...sometimes it doesn't. (damn no chance to send stern words to Oli this time !) I would suggest Lancaster or A Plan personally but plenty of others out there worth investigating

I use RH (Richardson Hoskin) and whilst I realise everybodys circumstances differ I don't recall hearing about anyone paying less than the £135 I had to stump up for a renewal last week. (5000 miles, garaged, 43 yrs old (me not the car) etc) Glad to say I've never had to claim but have been with them for 19 years now.
Thanks for the replies guys. The stubling block seems to be a garage! Been quoted £214 by lancaster and £248 with chaucer but both seem to have small print that the car must be garaged at night. Both these came back on comparethequeercat but then rose dramatically when transfered to the actual insurer, or lancaster said over the phone they could not insure. Not bad for a 35yr old female driver ( my wife ) with full no claims! Next best is quickfit (yes i know) at £480. (£550 to pay monthly)

Mine is parked on the drive and insured with Aviva for £360, it was £285 last year!ORIGINAL: Lowtimer If it's a daily-driver and not garaged, I believe some people have done OK with Aviva.

3rd car, classic policy ltd mileage 3k £130 f.c. with breakdown cover. has to be garaged overnight if at the address.
So.. any change of getting this and its predecessor threads converted into a sticky, either for this forum or the FAQ section? I'm happy to compile the whole thing into a summary posting covering, say, the last three months' entries if it will help... then if everyone adds their own renewal experience underneath, then after three months it is easy to re-summarise.

Yes can do this no problem. Personally I think placing such a thread in the FAQ section would be better to save cluttering up the main forum with too many stickies. Some sort of compilation would be great if you are feeling brave enough !ORIGINAL: Lowtimer So.. any change of getting this and its predecessor threads converted into a sticky, either for this forum or the FAQ section? If you just post the summary as a normal thread then it can be FAQ'd or stuck from there...ORIGINAL: Lowtimer OK then, what shall I do - assemble it all into a PM to you and let you do the modding?

The reason we've never had a "stickied" insurance thread before is twofold. Firstly the insurance market changes all the time, so my "I pay £xxx" post might well be out of date by next month. Secondly, circumstances are so specific to each person who asks that it's impossible to give a hard and fast piece of advice to anyone else. So, the advice is always going to be that every person has to do a whole load of research in order to get the best package for them. [&o] Almost everything affects the insurance price, or even if the company want to insure you at all. Once you factor in postcode, age, job, family circumstances, other vehicles owned, driving history, parking facilities, annual mileage, model, modifications, intended use (including private, business, commuting, track etc.) and many other variables it's easy to see why none of us pay the same amount. Also, don't always equate cheapest with best; I'd rather spend a bit more for things like agreed value, European cover, track cover etc. if I needed them. I guess what is of use is a list of Classic/ Performance insurers and contact details, it makes the search easier. But even then many owners, particularly with the Porsche as their main car, might get a better deal from any of the hundreds of "normal" insurers or comparison websites. Certainly have a go at a rolling "how much do you pay" faq; it's of interest in the same way as "I paid this much for a service". It's worth listing the companies who give a Club discount as well, with the free valuations it's worth more than the annual membership fees for many people.
