iPod in 997?

I'm using Guildford. When I asked about iPod when viewing the car I was told it could be done by their installers. Today I viewed the car again and spoke with a different guy to the salesman and re-iterated that I wanted to get their usual installers in. He seemed fine with that and gave me the details on who to call. Spoke with them and organised a date myself in fact which I will make sure is OK with the OPC tomorrow.

If that date turns out to be after I collect the car then I'll nip to the installers myself and get the work done. Bear in mind, all we looking at with this box is power and then splicing into the fibre optic ring and it's a pretty simple install. The hardest part is running the cable to the iPod holder if you want that in the car rather than under the bonnet next to the CD cahnger and I think I might well go for under the bonnet anyway.

Can anyone tell me if the cable with the flat connector in the boot which I assume is the prewiring for a CD player ( which I don't have ) would plug into a Denison Gateway 500 and give me iPod on my PCM screen. My car is 03/05 and doesn't have the 06 software that plays MP3 tracks.

Has anyone had an iPod connection fitted to their 997?

Had the M-Benz iPod connection kit fitted to my E-Class Mercedes, which works pretty well. Asked my OPC about doing the same to my 997 but they told me there was no official solution.

Any experience?

Thanks

Hot off the press.

ipod compatibility will be available as a Tequipment retrofit from June/July this year !

The Dension 500 has turned up and the fitting is booked. The Dension unit is quite small and there are quite a few wires and plugs nicely packaged with it so hopefully all will be OK. Given some of the wires are optical, I was concerned they would be coiled tightly in some tiny box on delivery but the actual box the unit is supplied in is big with plenty of space to ensure all is well.

I'm willing to bet the total cost is less than the Porsche retrofit once fitted, just as long as the functionality is good then I'm happy. I also think I may not even use this for iPod as it can handle a FAT32 USB drive so I might just throw all my music on a drive and leave that in the boot 24x7, just updating it every so often.

The flat commector does not, the dension needs to be commected to a permamemt live lead. I connected mine directly to the battery. This I think is to insure that your ipod is constantly charged and also because you can ioerate the PCM for a limited time without the ignition on. The installation I did myself and took about an hour..

I wonder what sort of mark up the Telequipment will add th the unit. Mine cost £299 with the optional extra ipod holder which I have decided not to use. I am leaving the ipod in the boot.

Any further news on this one?

Marc,

I spoke to my contact today about this as it happens, they are still awaiting an official launch date and price confirmation.....

I have the Dension 500 Gateway installed in my 997, and find the functionality a bit limited. Maybe I need to play around with it a bit more, but from what I've seen so far, it can just about manage a few play lists. Sometimes artists and song titles appear in full and sometimes only part of the song information is available.

I haven't been able to sort by artist or album and each track plays in alphabetical order from the play list. Has anyone had any better results ? The sound quality is good and it's miles better than a CD changer, but if the mooted Techquipment option gives the same functionality as the iPod itself, I would hold out for that.
