iPod integration

I am told by my OPC that ipod integration will be available within the next few weeks. However another OPC had no knowldege of this.

Has any one heard anything.

There are a couple of aftermarket devices due in the near future e.g. from Denison, which are MOST bus compatible. Maybe Porsche will re-badge one of them and double the price. And of course only the genuine Porsche version will not invalidate your warranty.[;)]

I guess you guys are much like the later 996 - apparently the Dension Gateway 500 is due for Porsche MOST systems in late June and gives proper integration without losing the CD changer - surely coming to a showroom near you with a nice badge and a nought on the price tag any day now....

Have a look at this -
Alpine Vehicle Hub Pro - http://www.alpine-europe.com/content/english/k376.VehicleHub---VehicleHub-Pro.htm

Entertainment systems change. Technology changes. Music and video sources change. If you still have the same factory-installed head unit"”and can't replace it because it's integrated into the vehicle's electronics"”how can you upgrade your system? VehicleHubâ„¢ Pro has the perfect solution. You can keep your current head unit, yet add all the media sources you want, build up your sound"”even to 5.1-channel"”and enjoy convenient central control with our new ORB controller. It's a definite change for the better. I hope this helps

I just spoke to Dension. They said that with the Becker CDR22 system and their Becker IceLink+ full integration through the head unit in the car can be acheived. I am pretty sure that Becker make the stereo systems in the 997 but is is the CDR22?

Does anyone know?

Regards

There is one dealer in the US that has been trying to fit the new Denison unit to a 997 for about 6 weeks, they are still waiting for the unit to arrive !

Dension have been proimising a MOST-Bus system ever since the CDR-23 came out in late 2003, so no-one is holding their breath. There is a thread on another forum about a Cayman owner having to buy a new cable loom due to a failed stereo/ipod install ($4000 bill !).

Leave well alone !

go to http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/accessories/ and scroll to the bottom of the page - here you can download a free iPod book - apart from a very comprehensive coverage of the features of iPods and iTunes, it has a story about integrating an iPod into a Boxster...

It's not just Porsche that confuse you with all the extras!!
How true!1
I spent an hour or so last eveing reading that iPod book and following some suggestions - didn't know there were so many options in iTunes...
Also found the iTunes scripts helpful - particulary the one that deletes orphan links...
BTW - don't use my iPod in the Porsche (always have the top down and prefer wind noise!) but so use a plug-in FM link in the 4x4 - plugs into cigarette lighter and holds/recharges iPod and links to spare spot on FM dial - not as neat as a MOST link but quicker, cheaper and available now...

Great link, but it involves ripping out the standard head unit or PCM and replacing with a aftermarket head unit - easy option !

The Dension product is supposed to be a pliug and play affair that integrates with the factory headunits and displays the ipod menus on the Porsche head unit.

the Harman Kardon Plug+Play will integrate your iPod with the vehicle hi-fi although it has its own control wheel (to mimic the iPod) and its own dash display (typically the iPod is kept in the glove box). I won't have one in my 911 because I always drive with the hood down and the hi-fi is just background; but having one fitted to the 4x4 tomorrow so will have some first hand experience soon...

HI

Dension USA just launched ICE-LINK GATEWAY 500 for porsches 2003 onwards ie.fibre optic cars but not in the UK yet

You do lose the 6disc cd changer, but so what....

I'd have agreed with you once, but having owned a car where the iPod link replaced the CD changer and replaced it with one that has iPod AND CD changer, I've come to the view that it is still useful to have both. The iPod often comes out of the car with you, but doesn't always go back in promptly. So it's nice to have the CD changer as a backup.

It would be great if we could organise a comparison test at a PCGB event some time.

Thanks for the reply Michael, do I guess from your reply that you currently have a system fitted that you can control etc your ipod through the PCM and keep your CD changer?

For sure, once I have this fitted we could arrange to meet at a PCGB meet. My wife & I are Region17 members.

Cheers

Paul

Agreed - I get so angry with myself for always forgetting to put it back. Getting very close to buying a second iPod.[8|]

Welcome along Paul, thank you for your input.
You will see there's quite a bit of information on the Denison unit but nice to hear of an alternative option.

Sadly no ... the iPod kits have been on the daily-driver BMWs. The 911 is still iPod-less. So I just drive at higher revs and make my own music instead [:D][:D]

But I would like to sort this point out.

Mark - I'm waiting for the iPod battery to die one day ... then it can stay in the car full time [:)]
