IS IT COMFORTABLE?

I am currently concidering buying a Boxster S. I have only just bought a Chrysler Crossfire which is basically a great car, although it lacks feedback on the steering but I just can't get comfortable in the seat. Its so bad that I have to change the car.[ good excuse anyway!] I'm just short of 6 foot and 15 Stone, the seats in the Boxster seem even narrower which is a worry. Like the Crossfire they seem really comfortable but what are they like after an hour+??.

I see you can get a leather seat upgrade to 'soft ruffled'. I wonder has anyone else got these seats?

Shouldn't be a problem, I was a lot heavier than that last year, and drove the boxster from scotland to austria....comfort was certainly not a problem.

Be careful of sports seats, they are narrower than the standard seats and I found uncomfortable. I have driven over 40,000 miles in mine and I find it very comfortabe and I am 6ft.

I am 5'8" 68 kgs and I have the seat as far back as possible and would still like another inch or so .... This is one failing about a Boxster it wasn't designed for the taller or wider of us [:D]

I am 6ft 1in and circa 16 stones. My Boxster had sports seats and I would suggest avoiding them. I also would have liked some more leg room. Even with these comments I have taken the car down to the South of France with no problems.
I have now solved the space issue by moving on to a 996, plenty of room

Tim

Hi there,

We avoided the sports seats for exactly the reasons mentioned above.

However, the 'standard' seats are absolutely fine. My husband's 6ft 3ins and about 16 stone and has absolutely no problems at all in the Boxster.

Buy one - you know you want to!!![8D]

We've got sports seats (second hand car so had no choice) and I (6'3 and about 16.5 stone) find them very comfortable indeed. However, I do find the driver's seat much more comfy than the passenger's, and I'm sure that its not completely a case of me wanting to drive all the time!

It may be that some sports seats are a bit wider, or even that you can specify the width, I'm not quite sure.

Rowland.

Thanks for all the feedback, I have booked a test drive for Wednesday. I will try for a 24 hour one after that, just to be sure. Did anyone else get a 24 hour test drive, te dealer seems a bit reluctant??

JCT600 now Porsche Centre Newcastle gave me 24 hour loan of an 'S' then invited me on a ride and drive day at Slaley Hall when the 03 model was launched[;)]

Ben Pelmi was the sales exec, top guy

we opted for the sports seats as we are both small so find them more comftable for long jurneys as they stop you sliding around

I had an hour with the demo car before I bought mine (Lancaster - OPC Colchester), and then 24 hrs with the "S" when they were trying to get me into a MY'03 this time last year.

The Boxster seats I have (non sports, leather/alcantara boggo spec) are the most comfortable seats I have tried in a sports car (except perhaps my old Mk 2 Golf Gti 16v) although I am a more average 5' 9" and 11 stones.

I got an hour test at Exeter. Did not need an extra 24 hrs as I was quite convinced that that was the car for me after that.
I am 6' and 14 stone by the way, and have the standard seats. I regularly travell long distances and find them very comfortable. Even more so than my wifes landrover freelander. Just avoid the sports option. It's very tempting when they are offered free with full leather but there not worth the hassle if you're big boned!!!!!

Just trade in the crossfire, you won't regret it.

And the ruffled leather???

When I bought my 996 it had nearly the exact spec I wanted. The bit missing was sports seats - it had ruffled leather instead. I was concerned they wouldn't hold you in place as well as the sports option.

They don't but not a fraction as bad as I thought they would be and are very comfortable even on very long journeys (Le Mans) (although I concede that I am not a fat g*t). So it didn't stop me. Anyway don't you fat people have additional built in comfort pads in your grotesque bodies??

In comparison with a smooooth leather sports seat the ruffles grip my skinny Arsenal cheeks a treat when overusing the loud pedal.

Not knowing your humour or contributions to this forum Tim (which seem vast looking at the No's) , comments like that (although maybe in jest) seem unwarranted.

I think you should keep your personal (body style) opinions in check.....

Be aware that they are not as "ruffled" as you might think.
Make sure you see it first!

If you would prefer me to be boring - fine......

It was a question not an opinion...... Don't people with more body fat (OK 911SE??) not have such a comfort problem with the harder sports seats?? If so it should be just a matter of fit.

I do not have excess body fat and have found my ruffled seats very comfortable. Have done the LeMans trip sitting and driving in both sports (Boxster) and ruffled (996) variants. As Mark has said the ruffled is not very "ruffled" you need to try them both out.

I won't bother to make a joke about checks and stripes in case it offends.

Tim,

I suprised at you, after all you are engaged in one of the most PC of industries as am I.

Shall we put it down to a moment of madness.

Well spotted Kevin.....

Therefore it could only have been a moment of madness.......

after all, I only narrowly missed out on the industry's annual Dressmaking for Beginners Club awards and Best Student prize in the 'Biffer' Prescott Advanced Diplomacy Skills for Construction Managers' course......
