Is there a list for components linked to each ground location?

Hello everyone.

I'm interested in finding a list of components that are linked to each of the ground points on a 1984 model 944. Could anyone help or direct me to a suitable diagram. I have seen the ground location diagram but it doesn't give you a list of what is connected to each ground. I'm looking specifically for the oil pressure sensor ground.

You should be able to locate on the web the factory manuals, electrical volumes, 4 and 5 in the set. They're pdf's. Vol 5 is 22MB and contains full electrical schematic diagrams with earth points included.

Sorry i don't know where they are located. A while ago they were on Rick Cannells website.

Thanks Paul. I found a good link after searching Google for the factory volumes 1 to 6 plus technical info. The files open as a internet page but if you save them you can open them in PDF format and they are much easier to use. Here it is if anyone else would like to use it

I take it you have discovered now from those that the oil pressure sender grounds through the engine block?

I haven't got a ground points diagram... but I vaguely seem to recall seeing one on a later type wiring diagram... I have just pulled out my copy of the Porsche 1984 rest of world diagram, and the oil pressure sender is on Part V, and the earth is just to the bottom (current track 9) no earth point specified, because it earts to the block... Excuse me for making supositions, but do I take it you have looked at the sensor, found two wires, and assumed one is earth? Not the case - both earth through the block, one wire being the oil pressure warning light, the other being the oil pressure gauge.

I assume you are looking at it because you have a problem, may I ask what the problem is?

I will check my engine block earth and clean it up. The problem I'm having is a flickering oil pressure gauge. I actually disconnected both sender wires because it was flickering at some points so much it would tap, but for some strange reason it didn't make a difference and the gauge still flickered. I was a little surprised by that to be honest!?

If I remember correctly the guage goes full scale deflection when it is earthed. I seem to recall having something similar, and it was the wire chaffed, and shorting out... this would fit with disconnecting the sender and still having the problem, except now you wouldn't be reading the correct oil pressure when it isn't shorting out. I seem to recall the wires pass over the top of the water pump at the front of the block, and this was where mine had rubbed... It may be worth wiggling the wires here and if it goes FSD and stays there, or normal operation is resumed you have found the problem!
