Is your PSE still working?

Paul Dodds said:
Hope this isn’t deemed to be off thread but:

Running a 2.7 981 with PSE (yes, I’ve had both sides replaced under warranty for seized valves, see above). I get a really intrusive drone from the exhaust system at 2000 rpm.

Posted on a specific thread but got some poor responses like "drive it faster” blah blah. This seems like a sensible group so here goes...

Would be great to find a solution to this as it’s probably going to push me to chop the car as I use it as a daily driver and it’s a problem at motorway cruise.

Any advice gratefully accepted!

Do you have a pdk or a manual? If it's a pdk using the 6th gear instead of 7th might help around the nsl.

As above you could easily swap the system with a standard one and even make some money on the swap or just keep it in the shed.

Have you checked the valves are actually closed with the switch off?

It’s a PDK and I think it’s more pertinent to the PDK rather than manual as the ratios differ between the 7 and 6 speed box.

Yes, 6th helps but it doesn’t quite make sense to be cruising in 6th when there’s an almost perfectly good 7th cog.

Change to a standard... you have a point but having had a PSE in my life, I really couldn’t be without it when that flat six is at full chat.

Valve’s are operational (as they’re almost new), and it occurs with PSE on/off.

Thanks for your response sir!

Thanks Kaiser. Yes, get your point. Dilemma is, eradication of drone would be great, but enjoyment of PSE on a spirited drive is priceless.

Basically, I want to have my cake and eat it; a perfect daily driver and a weekend hooligan machine. It’s actually so close...

I wonder if a valved exhaust from an aftermarket manufacturer be the answer for you. Obviously this would mean waving goodbye to any warranty but it would mean you could keep the car.
