Its Been a While !!

Hi All

Thanks for your replies.. Good to see a few of the stalwarts are still about .. I think we are all in the same boat - we all have no time and that puts a dampener on good intentions !!

Well I got a key cut from the door barrel and the lads in the shop made the profile of the boot the same as a gesture ! I threw caution to the wind and checked the levels and went for it. She fired up straight away but alas was on 3 cylinders. Checked around the leads and stuff no problems. I ran her again and pulled the leads in turn to find that it was #1. Im hoping that its not sommit like a headgasket.... !

There was a local show here in Co.Galway that I had intended to go to but no point if the car isn't running good. And now the lists

Necessary

Get her running properly - Belts and waterpump - Replace the oil and filter - New air filter - New tyres - Drain and flush the cooling system - replace the brake fluid - new brake discs - full body exam for corrosion - full pipework exam for perishes and splits and replace as necessary - NCT and Tax

Nice to do

New mats .. !!

Its funny how the brain works - Your memory will fade but just walking up to the old girl and taking the cover off the memories came flooding back.. Silverstone in 2008 where my avatar was taken with Johns Beaky and Pauls first red 944. The PCGB tour in 2009 of Region 27 . Cirencester in 2011 and the 944 crew all getting well lubricated in the students bar at the Agricultural College. These are only snippets of all the happy times in the car

For this now I need a deadline - http://www.rpm-motorsport.com/tours/donegal.php

There is a few local shows as well

What a terrible video...!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJo-1lvTv5I&t=4s

I have a bit of work ahead and as you all say it will be strange driving her again !! bring it on I say !!

With these resurfacing cars and a 40 year anniversary of production pending, maybe we should start planning an outing for 2022? A few of us went to Germany for the 20 years, and it might encourage a few more out!

Might be worth a wiggle on the injector leads - strangely while it was parked my coupe developed a faulty one - quick fix was a wiggle near the plug - It is not uncommon for them to beak down in use,

Tony

Thanks for that Tony - I must try that !!

Just before she was parked up I had a new dizzy cap, rotor arm, leads and plugs fitted to her. I am somewhat surprised to have her run badly like this but

Strange as it may seem but I have a notion that on the cold start she is on 4 cylinders for about 3 seconds then she falls off the cylinder as she goes to idle around 900 rpm. When she is warm she is constantly off the cylinder.

That would tie in Tony come to think of it as she would squirt extra fuel on a cold start for a few seconds and then lose the cylinder after the cold start cycle was ended - Or am I totally barking up the wrong tree ?

I will try your trick Tony this afternoon as I have 1/2 hour to spare [:D]

As for a trip out - Id love to .... !

Wow I can't believe it's nearly 20 years since our awesome tour to Stuttgart via the Nurburgring!!!! Maybe if we went again I would be allowed on the Factory Tour this time as my pesky kids are all grown up now and don't require me sitting in Reception looking after them

Best of luck!

I'm in a similar situation, trying to get mine back on the road after many years, but hopefully another couple of months and it will be out and about again - it's going to feel really weird driving it again.

I’m looking forward to seeing this Pedro. 😁

Really doesn't seem that long ago - though the ring video I took was on Hi-8 and copied to VHS! and we look a little bit younger!

Well my worst fears have just been realised - I done a compression test at the weekend just before I started to play with injectors and the like to find #1 cylinder is low, around 40psi compared with around 180psi for the other 3...!

This means at least a head off job, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that one of the rings isn't jammed. There is no point in guessing - We will no more when the head is off the car !!

Dave has been informed and the car will go to him next week and see what the story is. Might be a blessing in disguise as the belts and pump need changed anyway and a good opportunity to see what the health of the engine is !!

Now to put the forthcoming work to the boss !!![]

Best of luck with it!

Just reserected mine, it's been in fairly regular use for the last ten years but the I've been guilty of letting the Mot lapse for longer each year.

Last year's hot summer pretty much stopped me using it. No AC, black car and an engine that emits an amazing amount of heat.

Hi All

Well we took the rocker cover off and turned the engine over by hand and hey presto one of the valves was stuck !

We then took the head off and the liners and pistons are mint. So I have all the gear now to rebuild - Water pump, belts, headgasket and various seals.

Lesson learned.. Instead of doing what I done ie just checking levels and turning the key, it would have been better to turn the engine over by hand first then taking the main coil lead off and turning over on the starter until the oil pressure was up - then fire up..!!

What I think happened was the valve was dry and then when the engine fired it didn't release.. Thankfully no damage was done at all

Now where's that list of other stuff that needs done [:D]

Thanks a million for all your replies ... Good to have support [s1]

My car has barely turned a wheel for nigh on three years now other than to get it MoT'd . Keep meaning to rectify that - new belts may well be needed along with a thorough service !

Well now ! Went to Castlerea NCT centre last Friday -

Was failed for 2 tyre valves which were perished ! Got 4 in a local tyre depot - The PAS fluid was low so topped it up ! I felt a wee bit stupid after all the work with the engine that took place !

So back up again and passed ! I got another little Brucy Bonus in that she does not have to be tested for 2 years as she is vintage !

Now I have no excuses she is insured taxed and NCTed - I have an awful hankering to go to Blighty now ! Remember Cirencester in 2011 ?

Jon, I can recommend somewhere close by if you need it.
