I've Got it Back

Well after nearly 10 weeks of an empty garage bay, my RHD (fantastic) RS is back after I picked it up this morning from Autofarm.

They have straightened and refurbished the mag wheels and they look brand new and the cage and harness install is one of the best I have seen.

I cannot praise Autofarm highly enough (no affiliation) as their service is second to none and they are a bunch of real enthusiasts.

I had a huge grin on my face all the way home and even the weather picked up.

I hope I never have to send them my car again but if I do I will rest assured that it is the best hands.

I'll post pics when I get round to taking some as I know a few of you are considering cage installs...

Happy days are back to stay [;)]

wow, 10 weeks wait for that job?? They must be monopolysts in UK..[;)][;)]

Anyway I love it red

ciao

Main reason for long timescale we Heigo, they eventually took seven weeks to get the cage made and shipped to Autofarm.

Fitting was a few hours.

Wheel straightening took over two weeks and the refurbishment took about the same.

I don't mind the wait as the car looks new again.

I must get some pics taken...

yes, post some!

i'm curious to see whether the rear bars are bolted to the originally designed area (to work as an extension of the bars coming from the engine bay).

10 weeks? PAH!

I'm at 11.

But next week.......

I'll contact you when I have mine back Ollie.

This car has now actually been away from me for more time than it has actually been with me....I've forgotten what it's like...hope I still like it[;)]

Thats interesting......you've obviously got the bars in the engine bay?

I've only ever seen this on one other and that's Laurences yellow car.

Be interested to see the pickies also Ollie...Been contenplating this move for some time.

I'll get some pics taken over the weekend and post them on this thread.

The cage has arms that bolt to the transmission tunnel as well as the rear wheel arches and interstingly Autofarm had to drill the holes for the transmission tunnel as an RS does not have the holes (for seatbelts) from the factory. They are blocked off with a blanking plate.

Have a look at the link below for the one I have had fitted. Mine is black, not yellow and steel rather than alloy as it is stronger.

Heigo Cage

As you can see (just about) the bars on the Heigo cage are fitted to the wheel arches NOT extended through the rear bulkhead. Would be interested in any pics of one with the bars extended through the bulkhead via a flange arrangement.ala Matter C4RS.

I thouht all RS's where built in this way..

I cannot take pictures right now since my car is being repainted.

i've got a matter cage bolted as "supposed to" (actually , as I tought it should have been) and on the other side the factory mouning bars

Was this cage factory fitted ? It will/ may be listed in the option codes on your data sticker. Clubsports have virtually the same cage but it is welded in. I have the bars but the cage has been removed at some time. The bars in the engine bay are AFAIK not factory fitted they are part of the matter roll bar kit. Do you still have the matter sticker with the part number on it? The only other car I have seen with this type of cage is a Carrera 4 RS.

As far as I know the matter was fitted (bolted not welded) in a second time for the Porche races whereas the car was born with those bars already being part of the frame and coloured with the same colour of the bodyshell.

This is strange as I have not seen another RS with the painted bars in the engine bay other than the C4 RS that I mentioned. I would have thought that if they were factory fitted all RS's would have had them. I wonder how many other RS's have the bars in the engine bay. Maybe this is specific to italian spec? Where is Paul Mac when you need him.

I've always assumed that the bars visible in the engine bay in my Cup Car were continuous thru to the passenger compartment?

However, another nugget of info -they extended the cage thru to the engine bay because earlier cars with cages ending at the firewall had flexing problems with the weight of the overhanging engine leading to flex marks on the C-post.

Melv your bars do or should extend through and are welded, on at least on side of the firewall. The bars we are talking about have a flange that allows the cabin cage to connect to the engine bay bars . best view of this is in 911 & PW article on C4 RS, you can see the cage on that car is bolted in but is almost identical to a clubsport or cup cage. Having said the cage bolts in, I dont think it can be removed without destroying it due to the fact it looks to be welded in situ. If you look at the pics you'd see what i mean. I will try to scan some pic .
