Here are a slightly cheaper alternative for the jacking point in the middle of the car,

So: where does tool kit jack fit on a 968?

I've had the car for seven years Simon but it's been a while since I last looked anything up in the driver's manual. However, I've just been down to the garage to get the manual out of the glovebox and...

The tool kit jack locates in each of the four jacking points we've been discussing. The manual also confirms there is no centre jacking point.

Interestingly, the manual is quite clear that these are also the jacking points for a trolley jack or a post lift and the "sump, gearbox or axles" should never be used as jacking points. Maybe the flex issues only arise with age and corrosion as John suggested.

As far as my job on the car goes, the new spoiler has arrived with all new fixing screws and brackets etc but I've been unable to get a pair of ramps on ebay for a decent price but local enough for me to collect. So, with the car due to go into Hillcrest shortly for new torsion bar bushes and fuel lines (since the torsion bar tube will have to be dropped anyway), I think I will be asking Simon to put the new spoiler on while he has the car on the lift.

The front points on a 944 are for even lifting only, which is why the floorpan distorts when you use one side. Perhaps they realised this was causing issues and strengthened it on the 968? It's not an age/corrosion thing, it's been happening since the cars were new!

I owned one in the early nineties James, as a Gareth Cheeseman-style assisted purchase and I dont think that I ever knew! I clearly remember the jack which was different to the 944 that I had before (and after), but I have no idea where to stick it... [:D]

I dont think that I read the manual at all!

I don't think the floor is any stronger on a 968, honestly I can't see much difference at all in the centre section of the body shell apart from different sills. Its the front chassis rails/legs/inner wings and the rear quarters and boot which are very different on the 968.
