Jacking up a 944 turbo

Paul, at risk of going off topic, If lowered - clean sheet spec - what would you suggest for components:

Dampers
Springs
ARB's
Bushes

and settings:

Ride height below std
Camber
Toe

for general road use, not too skittish on B Roads / tarmac patches / repairs, 50% wet conditions, 20% motorway, not track use and not track tyres, 16" forged rims, LSD, comfortable for 100 mile trips, good traction @ 350bhp.

I realise there are many opinions on this subject, but I remember your car sat really nicely and would appreciate your comments

Go to Promax

They will set it up and then when they do leave it alone.

They do know what they are talking about.

Some serious cars go through their place.

I have owned (and built) many cars and the ONLY one I miss is my 944T on KWV3 and W/M ARB`s
 
Promax did a great job on mine too, though they did set it up with a distinct nose-down attitude. It did look unusual, but proved to be too low for every day driving, suffered from bump-steer, but handled great. I got another specialist to level out the attitude, and to be honest it didn't harm the road driving qualities at all.

I always use the centre jack point on our two cars. If you're worried about your sills / floors crumbling then the car shouldn't be on the road anyway!

My trolley jack is made by king jack and has a very low saddle hight. Even so, I still have to drive the lowered '85 model onto a couple of piece of wood to get the saddle under the car.
They arent the most friendly of classics to work on - lets be honest.

Try it when its lowered and with turbo side skirts [&:]

Already have. Our '85 is slammed to the deck with box sills!
Like I say, I have to drive the car up carefully onto a couple of bits of wood first to get the nose of the jack underneath.

 
Just a warning that if the floor is pushed up (even a little) the over centre slot in the throttle pedal can stop it returning and stick at about half throttle.

In a turbo - if you have just been working on it and go for a test run only to find when you throttle off that it keeps accelerating - you could find yourself with big problems - so alwats check that the steel throttle arm does not fully reach the end of the slot in the pedal before it over centres. you can feel this with a finger or see it with a light if you get your head down far enough.

I will be honest and say I didnt notice bump steer on mine but it had a 10mm forward bias based upon their recommendations and about 75mm clearance under.

 
Paul, thanks, I have used Promax to supply maintenance parts for years. They have good product knowledge and are helpful with problems I have asked about.
I will further the enquiry with them and keep you posted.
