Joint R7 and R4 event at East Kirkby Airfield, home of Avro Lancaster 'Just Jane' 6th July

  • For those attending the joint region event at East Kirkby on the 6th July, please remember it is cash on entry, £10 per car, there will be a raffle which gives you a chance of a Lancaster taxi experience.
  • There will be a route from the Yorkshire Wildlife Park although some of us in the Eastern part of R7 will be heading down across the Humber to visit the Landmark café https://landmarkcafeandrestaurant.co.uk/ on the way. The café opens at 9am, from there it is 30 miles and around 45 minutes to East Kirkby where gates open at 10am, we are expected to arrive before 11am. We plan to be leaving the Landmark by 9.45am at the latest which should have us at the airfield for 10.30am.
  • If you wish to join us please let us know, it will be advisable for our group to notify the café. The route link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/7ZabxZSjqowmaMxN9 we will pass Porsche Hull at 8am if anyone wants to tag along to the café.

This event is now full for East Kirkby display cars.

Please come along but no space next to the runway.
Hi Peter,
Looks like I didn’t book in time after our conversation on Wednesday.
Plan on coming along even if we can’t park with the display cars.
What time is everyone meeting at the wildlife park ?
Colin

Yes, that will be fine Colin, look forward to seeing you there.

There is always the chance of no-shows on the day.

I am not sure about the Wildlife park plan yet.

Evening all

The meeting point in South Yorkshire is Wilds Cafe-Bistro which is at the front of the Hex Hotel at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The postcode for this is DN9 3QY which is off Hurst Lane, Buckley, Doncaster. Enter the site and follow the signposts for The Hive and Wildlife Hotel. The parking for this is sectioned off from the main wildlife section car park, so you should be able to park together. What3words for this location is ///wealth.streetcar.quirky.

The Bistro is booked for 40 guests and is open from 7am. They will prepare anything on the menu for you, but if you would like to be in and out slightly quicker they will offer tea/coffee and a bacon roll for £6.50 per person. If you could just post to let me know if you would like a bacon roll and I can advise the bistro on numbers so they can prepare plenty of bacon before hand.

It is a two hour drive from here to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre (PE23 4DE) so I would suggest leaving at 8am or shortly after so you can make it to the location and get parked before the 11am taxi run.

The route I have planned can be found here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/NoBrWB9LJNquVeun9

There are a few possible stop points should a break be required, the first is Caenby Corner Services where there is a Starbucks, Toilets (in Starbucks), Fuel, and a charging point. Postcode for this is LN8 2AS.

Next possible stop is Ten Acres Cafe, nice big car park, but only a small cafe. Postcode here is LN8 3TG.

Follow the road to Horncastle (past the Belmont Mast), and on the way down the hill into the town is a Garden Centre with a Cafe and Toilets if required. Postcode here is LN9 5LY.

After the garden centre, continue down the hill to the second set of traffic lights where you need to turn right, heading for Louth on the A153. Once on this road after half a mile there is a garage on your right and Chandlers Ssangyong and Agricultural dealership on your left. You will need to continue past this, but if you have time on the way back there is a Porsche specialist called 911 Sport at the bottom end of the estate.

After the agricultural dealer, turn left in 200 yards onto the B1183 towards Revesby. This is only a small turning to the left, so don't miss it! This is a great section of Road through to Revesby, one of my favourites. Follow this all the way to the end, then turn left at the Red Lion Pub (nice pub as well). Follow this to East Kirkby and the aviation centre is on your right.

Enjoy your day!
