Just a feeler....

333 - it's literally just because at the moment I still have some slight tyre rubbing on the left rear arch under hard acceleration on an uneven surface. I love my wheels and I don't really want to get rid of them, but I like a low car and I'd like to go lower still when I eventually get KW3. What camber settings are you running? I've got very nearly -1 degree on both rears. Some people have suggested that renewing or replacing the suspension would help, but it's the torsion bar right so surely it wouldn't make a difference? I'd love to see a picture of your left rear from directly in line with it and behind the rear bumper. The edge of my rim is almost perfectly flush with the furthest edge of the arch (at the top). So a little down the arch the rim outside of the line of the arch, and I'm pretty sure this is where it is rubbing. Perhaps your tyres have a more rounded profile than my Conti's also?
 
...the only other thing is that I'm running 265/35 as opposed to your 285/30. Surely the rolling radius would be identical though?
 
As I said in the other post I think your wheels must have an odd offset and they are sticking out too far. I have 275's on the rear and many others have 285's with no problems. I suspect your wheels have the offset for a widebodied 911 turbo [&o]

Have you checked what is stamped on the back of the spokes?
 
No, I'll try to have a look tomorrow though. If they are the wrong offset, is there any way that spacers will pull the wheel in at all? (Excuse my ignorance!)
 
Well yes, check your offset firstly otherwise this is a pointless discussion. Where did you get your wheels or from what did they come off?
Are you still running on your original stock suspension? If so that would be very tired. If you get the V3's you will also get helper springs on the rear to combine with your torsion bar. You will go up in valve rate as well and the car won't dip and dive nearly as much as it does now, hence you will be able to lower it some, and not have rub. Having said that if the offsets are wrong then nothing will help you. Spacers as you can imagine go inbetween your wheels and hubs and make the wheel stick further out, hence they might be better suited to an 86 model.
 
Couldn't wait so just dragged the misses out with a torch and her pocket mirror! They're ET47 on the back. Should I be crying with despair because they're incorrect or just tugging on the wallet strings a little tighter to get that KW3 kit?! Would be handy to know just how low you've got your car. Any particular measurement down to the floor you could give me as a comparison?
 
...so I putmy width and offsett into the calculator and it says my rims will stick out by an extra 18mm, and hence where my problem is I think. Is there any way to reduce this figure without buying new wheels?
 
With 10's on the rear I have 60 et offset. Unfortunately I think you're scuppered. However if you plan to purchase the KWs anyway (and I heartily recommend them) then just do it and see what happens. Also do you have rolled inner guards? If not, then you can regain some room under there. Plus it is possible to get someone who knows what they're doing to 'ease' your guards out just a touch. There may be hope yet. 13mm doesn't seem much so you never know.
Unfortunately I can't give you a height reference as my car is in it's usual spot at the workshop awaiting some parts. I should just cut and paste the last part of that sentence for how often I use it...[:eek:]
 
Oh well, thanks for the advise. My inner arch lips are rolled so I'll have to try find somebody with a fender bender! Any suggestions for anywhere in the east midlands anybody? Thanks
 
Currently looking at some 10x18 but with ET65. Calculator says they will be the same outer position as the original wheels, but 26mm less inner clearance. Will that cause problems with the strut housing? Thanks, bennyboy.
 
Benny. I think your problem lies with you car.. The S2,s are notorious for being / having strange tolerances, when it comes to bodywork.
On my S2 the passenger side rear arch rubs on the tyre if i fit the replica wheels [ et 47 ] but the drivers side is great.. Thats with KW + about 2deg of negative camber...
I have a set of cup2,s fitted at present 8" fronts + 9" rears, the rears being a 55offset + they work just great....

IF you were offered a set of 17" ORIGINAL cups, what would you want £££ for a P/X.????
 
Dave, I'm assuming we're talking about a 1989 turbo? Benny, what size are your current wheels at the rear? I also assumed they were 10's. If you replace them with 10's and an et of 65 they will come in as compared to your current ones with et 47, but you might be a little tight on the inside...probably ok though.
 
Yeah it's an '89 Turbo and I'm running 10's at the back. Dave, what size are the original cups you have an how old are the tyres?
