Just bought a 964 C4

Hello Mark congratulations on youre purchase, i am also looking for a 964 with genuine sensible mileage, could you point me were i could find a C2 or a C4, been loooking in the usuall places put can only find dogs! no history and a million owners, I too like GP white but have been told not to purchase this colour as it is not a good seller!, this would be my first purchase of a porsche and im a little scared of being ripped , I would be gratefull for any response, thankyou.

Firstly, both of the above posts would get more attention if they were posted as new threads rather than adding to an existing thread.

On the heat problem, if you've changed (or, at least, inspected) the tubes which come up from the side sills there is a chance that you have a problem with one of the servo motors (mounted in front of the windscreen at the rear of the front luggage compartment). The vents on each side of the car are controlled by different motors so this would explain why one side appears to work and the other doesn't. There is a detailed write-up about these motors and changing them on John Miles' web site at www.porsche964.co.uk under the Technical section.

Regarding the purchasing question, there are quite a few retailers who specialise in the older cars - the likes of 911 Virgin, Eporsch, Paul Devyea and Ray Northways are worth a regular look. Rarer varieties can often be found at Gmund and Specialist Cars of Malton. Internet sites like Pistonheads are always worth watching.

If you have an interest in 964s particularly, you should look at the Yahoo 964 Group (http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/porsche964/ - there are links there to many of those mentioned above together with a host of other information and a worldwide 964 community to talk to.

The 964 is a great car - in all it's varieties.

Regards

Dave

Hi there,
We got ours at specialist cars Malton,it is a one family owned car Husband then wife,we were epecially wanting a white 911 my wife suddenly got a thing in her head that she wanted a white one,she uses it the most and it does suit her in that colour it looks very pretty especially when it is clean!,we got a new steering wheel from the local OPC (original) and it looks lovely in the interior now we even bought it a new gear knob/gaiter both these things really smartened up the interior. The places i kept an eye out where PS cars, specalist cars ,Gmund these peoples are usually lower miles and presented nicely.Best of luck with your hunt, ours is going in to Promax for a poke around second opinion, she runs really nice but its always good to check,if she turns out to be a "goodie" i can't see us selling her in the forseeable future..[:D]

So not only are our cars almost twins but you bought it from the same place! White and 964 go together so well that I don't think they will be hard to sell. It's not a Mondeo after all.

Ian.

Another place to try is Peak Porsche. The owner, Andrew MacDonald, attends North West PCGB meets and regularly comes up with good quality cars. He mostly advertises his cars on PistonHeads. Here's a very nice example of grand prix white 964 if that's the colour that tickles your fancy[8D][8D][8D]

On the face of it that is a very nice car. It's got cup 1 wheels and later mirrors. Looks to have a sporting set up with lowered suspension, front ducts, sports steering wheel, red belts, sports exhaust etc so may have been used on trackday (not a bad thing if looked after) but maybe not. It's also got airconditioning which is very rare on 964 especially for that year.

In fact at the mileage and what's on it, it seems a cheap to me.

Hi Ian, as you've seen from my top end rebuild thread I'm searching for a 964 for myself. I've seen this car in the flesh and can confirm that this car looks as good as it does in the photos. I thought it might be of interest to Spe (I'm not on commission BTW). Personally I don't want a white one otherwise it wouldn't be for sale anymore[;)]. I discovered Andy's set up (Peak Porsche) just a bit too late - he'd just sold my ideal spec - guards red C2[&o]. His prices are rarely higher than what you'd expect to pay for a private sale - I guess he must be a good negotiator when he buys them.[:D]

If you click on the website link within the PH add above you'll see he has black one too (and the guards red one in the cars sold section [&o]).

Hi , i did telephone andrew at peak porsche, but the car has been repossed, and did not have its service book at 39k miles, although the repo company says it had only covered 39k miles, the car does have its history since this, but has had 7 owners, so i dont think that this is the car for me, and so the search goes on, saving and looking who knows might be able to afford a anniversary 964 or maybe a 993

Hmm very interesting[8|]. I can see why you wouldn't be comfortable with it.

However, I can see the sense in 'buy on condition' that is common advice given out regarding old cars. Lots of owners of any Porker seems to be the norm rather than the exception so 7 owners wouldn't put me off. In fact I'm due to see one with the same number of owners in the very near future[;)].

Hi Dave ,
thank you and sorry for this mess.the detail to fix the motor is amazing in John Miles web .
thank again for your time
Konstantin

That would explain why it is cheaper than expected. It should be nearer 20 than 15 at a dealer.

Ian.
