Hi guy's, I purchased my first Porsche last summer (Boxster 3.2, 53 plate) and am enjoying the experience so far. I had toyed with the idea of spending a lot more and going for a later 911 but instead took some advise and went for the Boxster. No regrets....so far!. I have a couple of questions that I hope someone will be able to help me with (1) Servicing in or near Edinburgh: as I have a very good (main dealer, fully comprehensive) 1 year warranty on the car I want a Porsche specialist to give it a once over at some stage over the next couple of months, that way if I have any issues I can get them sorted before the warranty runs out, I have heard from a number of sources that Brian Miller is the best choice? (2) meeting people of a similar persuasion! Porsche gatherings in Scotland don't appear to be too common, what is the position......are there any good events?
thanks in advance, I'd appreciate any and all advice.

Hi and welcome to the forum .You said just joined do you mean the forum or PCGB ? I take it you bought the car from an official OPC or did the previous owner pass on the official warranty to you as to replace for another year will cost you over £1000 There are a couple of independents over in the east and surrounding area who have a good reputation
Brian Millar 0131 443 7806
Motortune 01501 822247
Sp autobahn 07973 385 463
There is plenty of events depends what your interest is .Club meetings both east and west ,days out drive bbq ,track days ,weekends away ,car shows In fact there is plenty for everyone .There are two clubs in Scotland and some members on here are in both clubs and each offers its own form of things to do best attend a couple of meetings held in both east and west coast and join in you will be made welcome although being an Arsenal supporter may go against you [:D] I am sure others will post and give you more info .
Brian

Hi I joined the club almost one year ago now and can thoroughly recommend it - lots of action for all aspects of Porsche ownership - do a little or do a lot - great bunch of very different people all with a common interest . I run the family business and my time is very limited but I do try and join in when time allows and I regard it as some very special ' me time ' . I intend to get more involved this year and Im looking forward to the coming season ..............get stuck in !!

Hey Brian, thanks for your response, growing up as an Arsenal fan means that I have shoulders as broad as the grand canyon, being an Englishman and living in Fife means that these shoulders get regular use!
I bought the car from Western Mercedes so it comes with a decent Mercedes warranty, and whilst clearly not a Porchse dealer...they should be reputable I hope! So the warranty expires in July, before then I want someone to service it and give it a full check, so if anything major is wrong at least I can get it sorted under the warranty.

Thanks Mike

Don't overlook the official Porsche Centre in Edinburgh either, who are excellent.

If your car needs any bodywork attention, the Eastern/Western group (who own the Merc garage you bought it from) run what is probably the best body shop in East Scotland, which is also run by a PCGB member, and is highly recommended. I have used them myself, and wouldn't go anywhere else.

Enjoy your car. [;)]

The club is holding a cleaning day on the 27th March at Eastern Western Body Shop.Full use of there facilities great day to clean your car for the summer ,Always overbooked so get your name down on Scotts mailing list. Most of the guys in the other Porsche club use BM ,but as John said do not discount the OPC ask for the best deal they can do and say you are a member of PCGB

Thanks John, about service....I hear Brian Miller is about the best independent?

Hi Michael, I've just given him a try, partly because he's more convenient to get to for me, and from the first encounter he gets a big thumbs up. Not tried him on anything big yet but I only went because he was recommend by others on here and at meetings.

Well, had many a car and some dame fast. Got my first Porsche late last year for a birthday present, lovely 944 S2.

not had many miles yet, but getting all sorted for a few good sumer miles.

First of many posts

only car enthusiatsts could think that a cleaning day sounds like fun......so count me in! I've spoken to the OPC as keen to get the official stamp in the book after the last owner who had 2 services at dodgy sounding places in Airdrie!

Thanks for the tip.

Thanks Mark, I want to use Brian as he seems like a good guy, but torn between needing a stamp in the book (OPC) and making friends with a man who clearly knows his stuff! Hmmmm....

Hi Scott, I'm told that you da man when it comes to the Eastern/Western cleaning day? This sounds like a great chance to meet some people, it's difficult getting to evening events as I work in London and commute back and forth to Edinburgh 3 or 4 times a week...so in a permanent state of knackeredness! So if I could get to this day it would be great?

Hi John,

Unfortunately not, just sitting in the lounge at T5 pondering another gin & tonic! Oh well, there has to be some compensations for working 80 hours a bloody week!

let me tell you, right now retirement seems a long way off, I just hit 47 and by the time I get to retirement age which will by then be 75 of course.....I'll be fit for nothing. I'm considering trying unemployment, it seems to work for millions? Mind you with 3 kids and a wife to support I guess I'll just have to keep working for now. At 4.00am in the morning when I'm getting up to catch the commuter plane to Heathrow ...I often wonder what the hell I'm doing...home late tonight and back down tomorrow, there must be easier ways to make a meagre living!
