Guy's,

£1000 at OPC fro a 48k service & plugs, oil, brake fluid..........this seems high. Negotiated down to £500 + all the bits (excl plugs, brake fluid, air con check) ..any views?

I would go and get a comparison from a couple of specialists.Just shows you if you dont ask you don;t get .We are trying to build up a good working relationship with the OPC and get the best deal for the members ,but it is after all your hard earned cash .Please do not take this the wrong way but on a 53 plate car it will make no real difference to the resale value if it has got a OPC stamp in the book ,unless this is the only one missing and you want it all official .
As long as it has been serviced at the right intervals and using Porsche parts and all work done in accordance with the manufacturers it will be ok

Hi Kitchens, You're right, my fear is that the previous owner serviced the car at some place in Airdrie (T.O.M.??) and I want to make sure that it's perfect, yes I am a bit anal in that respect but I want the car to be 100%. I am leaning towards Brian Miller as I've heard nothing but good about him, I did negotiate very hard with OPC (I'm a salesman after all!!) and really don't feel that I'm getting anywhere, they have quoted (after negotiating) £500 for the 48k service + £152 for plugs, + £115 brake fluid, £200 aircon check, £36 drive belt ....this seems expensive...what do you think?

If it where me I would go with BM I know him through the Tipec club and a lot of the guys there use him .As to AC check a waste of money as long as the system is producing cold air leave well alone .SP at £25 each a joke and BF at £115 I do not get this with Porsches change every 2 years no other car I have owned and that is over 100 have never had to change every 2 years If you get it fully serviced and are prepared to spend a few ££ in sorting any issues that come up you will have a great car .What happened in previous services will be of little consequence once you get it done by any good independent .I will speak with BM if you like and let him know you are looking for a complete check

Hi Brian, still not sure if your on my mailing list or not as there was an issue with the members joined in January ! so please send me an email with your member number or surname so I can tick you off the list of new members.

youd be most welcome at the cleaning day, its limited to around 20 cars and emails have gone out to all club members to reserve spaces, so I will add you to the list.

Regarding service, Brian Miller and Motortune both have good repuations, theres always someone that has had a bad experience with someone but on the whole the two main dealers and the few independants in central belt are all good, independant vs main dealer, main dealers will negotiate on price based on retaining the cars within the main dealer network so its always sensible to discuss cost. Independants are normally but not always cheaper, Depends alot on how much you value the serivce record being main dealer or not. For older cars its less essential, but selling an older car with main dealer history is easier than with independants, as they say - You Pay Your Money and Takes your Chance.

cheers
Scott.
