Just paid deposit on this 993 Turbo

Car is now sold, and is in my garage.

Work to be carried out to rectify small oil leak from Turbo. Amari is having two new turbos fitted at his cost - as the car had previously had re-conned turbos fitted to rectify an earlier issue, as well as replacing items such as a worn key fob etc. Other than that car is perfect, i'm very happy!

Ah tks for reply. Any idea what the costs of the new turbos wud be?? Makes me realise that u need a private inspection when u are buying one of these. Im toying with the idea of switching to turbo.

New turbos are £2k EACH! while the engine is out we're going to have a loo at the clutch too.

Inspection is essential on any car but especially on a car of such age.

That's pretty bad luck having to replace the turbo's,ive not heard of many needing to be replaced. Are they both faulty?

I've heard contrary and that many have had to be replaced (from my Porsche and Ferrari specialist).

They've been replaced before to try and rectify an oil leak from them both, replaced with re-cons and working ok - but I'm having them changed for new ones, as that's how I like things - proper.

Stunning in silver! [8D]

Im very surprised.
About 6 years ago when I purchased my turbo, it was my main concern. Talking to gary sorrell of porsche centre cambridge a couple of years ago, I posed the question about turbo chargers, and there reliablility in 911 turbo's of many variety, and they only ever had one or two cases where a turbo became faulty, he assured me that they were very reliable.
And I have to say, being a member since 2005 ive not come across many threads on this forum about bad turbo chargers.

There's time yet for me I supose.

When 993tt`s are not used regularly and stood for a while you can get some oil weeping out of the turbo`s into the induction pipes and exhaust system. This then causes the blue smoking on start up as the oil is getting burnt out of the exhaust system, it doesn`t mean the turbo`s are necessarily "knackered"!

By fitting the kit illustrated below, basically 2 new turbo oil feed pipes with 996 turbo oil feed pipe valves it helps eliminate these issues. When the cars are stood , the weight of the oil in the oil tank and the forces of gravity cause the oil to seep into the the turbo`s bearing housings. The turbo oil sumps then fill with up with oil, because, without the engine running the oil scavange pump isn`t draining the sumps. When the sumps are full, the oil seeps through the bearing housings into the induction and exhaust pipes. The valves need about 1 bar of oil pressure to open, so when the engine is not running the oil doesn`t drain into the turbo`s. Since I fitted them to my own car I have had no issues when it`s been stood for a few months.

Just thought I would mention it before everyone panics about the condition of their turbo`s.

I know of two members who had to have new Turbo's fitted - one only had about 20K miles on a 96 car. I think short trips are always bad for these cars!
