Kumho V70's on a '73 stock 911?

About to buy some Kumho V70 205 x 15 x 50 tyres for my Bitza hillclimber 1973T with stock width wings. I currently have 7'' Cookie cutters for it front and back.
Current road tyres are Brigestone SO2 Pole Posistions, 205 x 50 x 15'' which easyily clear the arches. The wheels are the Compomotive copies of the Fuche wheel but 2 piece and have the same offset as the Cookies.

Anyone know if I will have tyre clearance issues esp on the rear with the Kumho's??

Surely if the Kumho are the same size as the Bridgestone (205 x 50 x 15) then they have the same dimensions too?

I have found to my cost that some tyres (of the same size) have a very different sidewall shape.
Some are very bulged (the SO2's for instance) and Toyo's that are very square sided and rub the piant so blistering it on the rear wings, but have a wider contact of tread.
The Kumho's I've had on my Impreza are 'square' side walls which is why I'm worried.
Several hillclimb series 911's run the Kumho's hence the question hoping to find one with experience.

Things are never simple!

Can't help you with the Kuhmos as I have never used them but have 7" rims and have run the same size in Michelin Pilot Sport Cups which are also very square as well with no issues front and rear.

Ian.

Excellent, thanks Ian, hoped a hillclimber would help.
The suspension really compresses in the lower S at Shelsley Walsh and it catches the wing if I'm not careful or even fast!
Just 4 weeks to go and the season starts!

Graham it should be fine at 205/50 x 15 Kumho's. David Strange has run those for a number of years on his 73 car without problems and latterly 225/50 on a 7'' fuch. Hope that helps.

Ian

Ian: 225 on a Porsche rim @ 7'' and stock rear wings?
Thinking about 225 rear, 205 front if that will work.
Graham.

Good luck with the season Graham.

It would be really great if you could start a thread on here when it does and keep a blog and picture record of the season. I for one (and I think many others on here) would be really interested in your experiences.

Ian.

I was going to do that as I did on the Subaru site. The Impreza one spanned 2 years and 48 pages!

My car is a bit of a simpleton compared to some out there so I wasn't sure if of much interest, but it may encourage others to have a go, esp in the Porsche Series.

It worked for the Impreza boys, 5 now hillclimbing and one now much faster than me![]
Pity you can't place multiple pics and vids on here. Don't know how to do a Blog....[&:]

Will give it some thought!

I will do the Midlands Championship = Loton Park, Shelsley and Prescott.
Also, the Leaders = all the above, Barbon in Lakedistrict and Harewood in Yorkshire

I plan to do the fab Epynt hillclimb in the Impreza where I need 380 bhp and 4 x 4, but if the competition is too stiff might do the event in the 911.

It is a mighty good excuse to say the old girl is 1973 with 230 bhp.....truely no pressure.(esp when the class has Audi short wheel base Quattros with 600 bhp.)

I want some fun in 2008.

Yikes!

After a bit of measuring today the 225 section tyres on a 7'' rim are just 7 mm wider each side than the 205 Bridgestones.
The Compomotive 7'' rims have the same off set as the 7'' Cookie cutters so I think 225's will j u s t go on and clear the rear arches. 205's on the fronts for sure..

Just waiting now to fit the tyres, tax it and start to bed the tyres and brakes in and get used to No heater, no power anything, that 915 'slick' gearchange, wipers that barely do anything!

This is going to be GREAT! [:D]

Graham just watch the clearance on the fronts, I did have to roll the front arches on mine to get adequate clearance. It does depend how low you are running of course. All the best for the season.

Mine is not as low as yours I think. The rears are rolled but the fronts are as made, but thanks for the tip!
Kumhos come in 185/205/225 only in soft/15''

Wife got the Kumho's yesterday, so popped them on one side last night.

The 225's are so wide on the rear. The 205's are just right, so it will be 205's all round. They will swop the 225 for 205 tomorrow.
Fronts look 'full' but I'm so used to seeing Bridgestone 195's under there.

Tyres were mounted wrong for correct direction ( [] ) which is not the first time this has happened to me!

Pics over the weekend. 3 weeks to the 'Off' now [:D]
