Labour of love?

Hi

You can probably tell from my previous post's that I'm the new owner of a 944 that has a few "issues"!

This is my first 944 and was bought in "the spur of the moment" well, not exactly spur of the moment 'cos I've been considering getting myself a second car that would be a bit more fun than my Mondeo estate (that ain't hard!) and after looking at the car for the first time, I did a lot of checking around cost's and work involved, the end result being a nice, shiny 944 sat on my drive with, as I said earlier a few issues!

Heres the rundown.....

Car is a 944 lux, registered early 1994, 5 owners, owned by previous owner since 1992, previous owner is not "mechanically inclined" so most of the work that has needed doing during the time he's owned it has been done at local (to him) garage including services, cam belts etc. The mechanics at the garage I collected it from said he'd have it looked at for the "slighest thing" The fact that he'd owned it as long as he had, swung it for me!

The car was stolen and as a result had the ignition switch wrecked, now fixed, it also has a clutch problem, I budgeted for the "worse case scenario" here (after much consideration!). The other faults include a damaged heater switch (got one on e-bay for £6) damage to the front and rear wheel arches below the hammerite, cill line, probably done when being recovered onto a trailer (very easy repair), the front torsion bar has been pulled out of it's bushes, again, probably done when being recovered and having the winch attatched to it. The drivers seat is worn and some small, minor interior items need tiying / repairing and it just needed a good clean. The paint work is better than my Mondeo, it's moonstone blue and is fitted with teledial alloys with good tyres
It's MOT'd till May, starts first time, run's great, sound sweet, keeps good oil pressure, and put's a big grin on my face when ever I walk past it!
Don't ask me what I paid for it, it's sufficient to say it was "as cheap as chips"[;)]

Going to keep me busy over the winter though!
I'll post some pics when I get chance to upload them

Be prepared for an onslaught of questions!

Tony

Looking forward to them Tony, especially the pics I can't quite imagine what 'moonstone blue' looks like.

Sounds like your list of things to keep you busy is not too long. I have heard horror stories from people who have bought cheapies that then cost £1000's to put right - it's still worth it though [;)]

I'm trying to keep an indepth record of what I do, should be useful if I ever want to sell, but I've not bought to sell, bought to enjoy!
Moonstone blue, I'm sure thats the colour he said it was, I'll post some pics!

Someones got to buy these cheap motors and get them back on the road, otherwise there won't be any early ones left!

Pic's ..... pre - wash!

I'm intrigued by what looks like a red 'cruise light' on the rear wing in the second photo. Were these an option, or is it an aftermarket thing? Anyone know?

So it does...

This could explain the funny colour... Or should it be "Color" in this instance[;)]

Hmmm.... Not sure P Funk want's to know the way this is going...[&:]

Well spotted chaps, this is all new too me, looks like it might have made it's way here the long way round or US spec' parts have been used during construction for some reason??

Regarding the colour / color, I'll check the VIN plate, I should be able to get the colour code off of that! I have seen this colour bfore though!

Tony

Colour code should be on a sticker, on the rear panel under the carpet in the boot (next to the spare tyre).

It's Saphhire blue isn't it? Same as Phil Rowley's.

Moonstone was a Ford colour (3 door Cossie) and a Peugeot one now.

it would be the only 944 I know of with front torsion bars !

Ooops, anti roll bar, my mistake

Re: the colour, the guy I bought it off mumbled the "moonstone blue" bit, too be honest he wasn't very talkative so after getting everything out of him I needed I left it at that! I spent most of my time talking to the mechanics who'd worked on the car.

Tony

Checked the VIN plate this morning and it does have ZZZ in it, I got the date wrong in the first post, this car is an '82, is this one of the first 944's? if so, would that explain the odd bits! Hard to believe it's 21 years old, even in it's current state!!

Tony

Certainly my 1984 924 has the wiper arms set for LHD, so I don't think that the arrangement of the wiper arms changed until about 1985.

Still not sure about the reflectors on the rear though, I think those must be aftermarket, the original ones are longer I think.

Looks like you do have one of the first [:)]

A 1982 car should have the letter C as the tenth character in the VIN, something like WPOZZZ94ZCN40000. The last 4 numbers are the individual number for your car. Apparently there were 3921 built worldwide in 1982 so you should be able to work out which one is yours.

I used these websites so can't confirm their accuracy [8D]

EDITED to put the correct letter in and look clever before David corrects me [;)]

Correct with the letter 'C' it's CN4 and the last four numbers are 3082.
Thanks for working that out for me guys, it's always nice to find out more about a car!

937carrera, like the dbracing site, lots of good reading!
