Leak Advice before I part with some cash

Hi,
I had a look an S2 yesterday and it looked all good as they say except for what looked like an oil leak from under the drivers seat. The floor pan was oiley in the area below where the rear seats were. There were some tubes / pipes that ran down in the area and they were wet as well. Has anybody got any idea what this is and whether I should be overly worried about it?
Also is it enogh that the belts have been changed or do the tensioners need replacing at the same time as well? The car has done 130K and has had the belts changed twice.

Many thinks in advanced...

When you say 'under the seat' I presume you mean outside the car underneath?

The pipes under there carry the fuel from the petroltank to the front of the car and also the brake fluid from the front to the rear. The only way I think that it could be oil is if some is dripping onto the undertray then being blown back there when travelling at speed.

At this age it has been known for those pipes to start corroding. Some of them can be quite expensive to replace because the standard ones are pre-bent hard pipes and the rear axle has to be lowered to fit around them, though many people use flexible nylon or copper piping that can be bent in situ.

Alternatively the oily mess could be that someone has sprayed Waxoyl over them to help protect them. My garage has done this for me and it does look a bit messy. If the brakes work and ther is no petrol smell this could be something to consider.

The belts should have been changed within the last 4 years or 48,000 miles (most of prefer to at 3 years and 36k) or you need to budget to do them again. A mechanic with 944 experience will be able to tell you at the time whether the rollers and tensioners inside also need doing. A rule of thumb could be every 2nd change they will also need doing.

DO NOT FORGET ABOUT THE CAMCHAIN TENSIONER AS WELL (excuse the caps) this is in the top of the head.
