LHD or RHD

And this is a US 987. At long last Porsche finally paints the bumperettes in body color.

Is that 4 years and 50,000 miles by any chance? They'll be taking advantage of the $ and selling them for £25 grand next. Oh hang on....

LHD...... over here

For me a LHD was all about price, I couldn't have afforded a RHD 993 or even my RHD TT when I bought my previous LHD TT..... for the price of a lessor RHD car I was able to afford a better car, even though it is LHD !

We are clearly in a road network designed foe RHD cars, but for the price of driving a great roadster, driving from the wrong side does make it a bit more challenging. When you've adapted to sitting on the other side, driving the leftie though traffic isn't a problem. It does take a "˜short' while to initially co-ordinate the mind to the leftie world; trying to change gear with the door handle or looking out for a mirror that isn't where you think it is can happen!

Overtaking isn't so much an issue, you just hang back a bit and get a good view up the inside, but then again how often is there a real opportunity to overtake on UK roads. Although making eye contact with other drivers is difficult as they would look at either my passenger or get a small surprise when they have an initial look at an empty seat. Although when I've encountered a spot of London road rage, it's my passenger (rather my wife!) that can get shouted at!

As for parking, parallel parking is now easier than ever, being on the pavement side. The disadvantages occur at car parks ticket barriers which do pose the greatest challenge. There are various techniques, bring a friend! Grabbers can work; alternatively you have to slide over the handbrake so I can lean out of the passenger window to reach the car park ticket. Unless you're out of range, then you have to get out of the car to pay the ticket booth a visit. Not exactly stylish, but then I keep reminding myself that's it's a small inconvenience to pay for the significant saving I made.

As for the fast-food drive-thru's I don't recall ever attempting it solo, which is probably not a bad thing as it's probably helped me cut down on such trips, but I could always go through it backwards?
