[/link] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]Details leaked onto the web from a Porsche sales meeting have revealed the future of Porsche's products for the next couple of years - including plans for a hardcore Boxster Spyder-style Cayman. [FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"] The hotter Cayman is expected to get around 330hp and a series of weight-saving measures similar to the [link=http://www.pistonheads.com/roadtests/doc.asp?c=105&i=21703]Boxster Spyder we drove a few months back[/link] - it could finally be the spiritual successor to the much-missed 968 Clubsport from the early 90s. It should hit showrooms in spring 2011, priced at around $65k (£45,000). Word is that the dates and prices involved refer to the US market, however, so take these figures with a pinch of salt. The Speedster is expected to cost around £140k, and is due towards the end of 2010. [FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"] The hotly anticipated 620hp [link=http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=21928]Porsche 911 GT2 RS[/link] - the most powerful Porsche road car ever - is also due in late 2010 or early 2011, around the same time as a 911 Carrera GTS. Unlike the GT2 RS, the GTS will be a mainstream production model. It will get the same 408hp engine as the speedster, as well as the wider body and a Sport Classic-style nose. [FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"] According to the poster on the Rennlist forum, when (and if) the 918 Spyder gets approved, prospective buyers will be asked for a $50k non-refundable deposit to secure a build slot.
 
Agree, Pistonhead rumors are based on old news. The Cayman photos are of the Gen 2 press launch cars from over a year ago.

If there were to be a 'Spyder-ish' version it wont be that radical, same lightweight doors, wheels, small fuel tank, and perhaps a plastic rear window. But time the salesperson has got to the 'comfort options' he has negated any potential weight savings by adding PCM, air-con, sports seats with heating the heavy battery and cup holders. Out of the early Boxster Spyders I have seen I have only seen one with no air-con/radio but it did have the heavy battery and steel brakes.

According to the test pilots at the recent Spyder days at Silverstone the difference between a Spyder with very few options and ceramics (I drove) V a Spyder with all the wrong boxes ticked including the heavier standard sports seat option and alternative but heavier alloys can only be measured against a stop watch. You can hop from one to the other and from the drivers seat of his pants they will feel and handle identically [&o] So much for the need to cut every single ounce in the first place with ounce saving touches like the fabric door pulls, no instrument cowl, to name just two [:D]

I just remember the 'extra' marketing hype about most of its' performance uplift was down to the cars 'weight loss'.
 
Hi All I know i'm late to this thread but i'm new to the forum and new to Porsche ownership - 3 months into owing a 2006 Cayman S and loving it! A lightweight, faster, sharper Cayman is an intriguing prospect although I can't fault my own! However, as it would probably around a 3 yr old used Cayman Clubsport i'd be procuring if I was to get one in the future, it made me think of a couple of things and i'd be interested to hear your thoughts. It is said the Clubsport would come out in 2011 as a 2012 model. However, it is also said that an all new Cayman is expected in 2012. Does that mean the Clubsport will be a short-lived 'run out' model on the current platform? Also is it likely that the new (standard) Cayman S in 2012 is likely to have similar power and performance of the Clubsport? (I appreciate the Clubsport is about more than just a power increase).
 
Thanks Alan. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the 2012 Cayman S but then the Carrera would have to move up a bit if the 2012 Cayman S is to do say 0-62 in 4.6s like the Clubsport. If the 2012 model is not that quick then perhaps the Clubsport will really be a bit special even in comparison to the 2012 model when it arrives!
 
Anyway, lets wait and see. The Boxster Spyder has the advantage of coming out much sooner than the Boxster's new model whereas the Clubsport will be so close to it. Also the Spyder has new bodywork to differentiate it. I'm looking forward to owning something like a Spyder or Cayman Clubsport in the future whatever the scenario that encompasses their existence at the time.
 
Is the Cayman S Sport Ltd edition the next best thing if this does not happen. lost a fair amount and pretty rare to buy. 305 bhp up on the original 295bhp and with lots of goodies as standard including a sports exhaust and so on. bet that wont be standard on the new CS. Ltd edition wont be as light but do like my radio [8D] Bet one would look good in Speed Yellow though [:D][:D][:D] Any thoughts from a Cayman S Sport Edition owner if there is one out there.
 
For me the Cayman S Sport was more of a cosmetic limited edition (nothing wrong with that). Check the performance figures at http://www.porsche.com/microsite/cayman-sport/uk.aspx If the Cayman S Clubsport follows the theme of the Boxster Spyder then there should be more engineering improvements and merit being considered a new variant rather than a limited editon.
 
Lets hope so. But it will probably be priced as the usual more money for less. Just used special edition with a little more bhp and all the goodies looks good value for money.
 
Looking at the 997 GTS and the Boxster Sypder I think they'll do enough to make it special - a list appears in Alan's column in PP originally published on Planet 9 and I guess that's more or less what the car will be like. Recent "insider" P9 posts suggest an annoucement by Porsche 17th November. I'm away next week but when I get back I'll go see them at Bolton see what the deal is. They mentioned February.
