Little niggly things that you never get around to fixing

I figure we all have some of these. Wee things that you never seem to spare the time to fix.

Mine are:
  • Slightly squeaky bearing somewhere in the air circulation system
  • Random bit of metal that pokes out of the drivers seat near the floor
  • One of the drivers seat electric adjustment switches has gone
  • Front spoiler has lost one of its fixings at one corner
  • A wee dent and scratch over the rear wing where someone bumped me in a car park

What are yours?

I'm sure we've all got them - for me they are probably the things that when I bought the car 4 years ago I thought "must get them sorted..."

Clock - has never worked - who cares really?
Rattle from drivers door - only lasts for first 5-10 mins of a drive
Passenger door lock button - doesn't move as someone obviously wrenched it off at some point. Lock still works though.
Interior light - doesn't turn off if hatch strut is connected
A few stonechips & the like don't really worry me - they can wait until a new owner decides to give the car a full paint job some time in the future [:D]

TBH I've found I can live with these things quite happily - I can't live with mechanical problems, so these get priority (which is why my car will be at Promax for a backbox & attention to a squeaky idler next week - my usual garage said - "nothing to worry about, the balance shaft idlers are often a bit noisy" [] )

I have finally got my aircon sorted - very pleased about that [:D]

Hi poprock. Have a look at yer wiring under the seat. It's fastened with cable ties. Snip em all off, slide off the connector and I reckon you will find a break in the wiring when you stretch it all out. I had the same issue and thought is was the switch till I found the break...

Good to know!

I'll remember that, if and when I ever get around to trying to fix it "¦

- Interior and glove box lights work erratically
- Hinges on driver's side door are a bit loose
- Interior mirror shakes excessively on poor roads
- Seal of the fuse box lets water dripping on my left sock (LHD) when driving in heavy rain
- Prisms of the dial cluster could do with a replacement
- Plastic cover of the blower under the hood is cracked in secondary places

Had a similar electrical issue - the digits on the clock wouldn't appear with the door open, caused by a short in the glove box light switch which would always blow the related fuse.

a bit of black tape will sort that one, looks fine on mine.

My only issues are:
- cigar lighter has never worked (and its not the fuse)
- arms on glovebox lid have broken, but I bet we all have that one.

If I lived far enough South, my car would probably be in Promax every other month and my bank account would be empty!

Well, the cover is cracked where it is stuck on the metal bracket just below the windscreen, if using tape I would probably have to tape the lower part of the windscreen [:D]

Squeak from rear somewhere
headlining behind sunroof hangs down slightly
heater fan only works on number 4 (mentioned on another thread!)
Clock light doesn't
I broke the up/down electric mirror adjustment on the driver's door mirror, now springs up at random...
Swapped the original gear lever back in but don't have the circlip, so gear lever can come off in my hand if I get over-excited[:)]
trim surrounding driver's window switches is a bit loose
3 slight oil leaks
4 patches of rust on sills

When I get a job the rust and oil leaks will get some attention, but the rest is just 'Character'

For me when I had my 944 it was those little cosmetic things I could never find the time to get round to fixing. Like doing something about the worn and faded graphics on the switches. I'm not an attention to detail person - I can notice the little things, but can never be bothered to do anything about them.

Always odd creaks that I fix one and another appears[]
tailgate pins free off and adjust tighter
re clean cream half leather seats
Otherwise I have kept on top of things as they happen[:)]

My car's PAS pump obviously wanted to be in a Spagetti Western, as it plays a haunting melody at random times..usually when I'm giving a lift to someone already nervous about being in a dangerous old wreck overdue for trade-in on the scrappage scheme [:D]

Oooooohhhh .... GOOD thread!

I fixed two of mine yesterday. Broken cable going to the rear hatch strut (turning on the boot light when the boot is opened), and the radio illumination never dimmed when the lights were turned on. Both now fixed.

I also investigated the under-bonnet light, but didn't come to any conclusions on that one.

I'd like to have a go at a slightly dropped headlight. And the fact that the alarm could be re-wired so that it closes the windows and sunroof when set. And the fact that the glovebox lid is broken, and swings open all the way (rather than being caught on the arrestor clips.) And minor stonechips in the paintwork. And a rattle in the main silencer box in the middle of the exhaust system. And a faintly rattly bonnet release handle. And a slightly tatty (but fully functional) sunroof seal. And I'd like to have the seats re-dyed.

That's about it tho'.

Oli.

Hmm..... let's see what I can recall from memory, mostly the usual culprits...

Clock bulb - clock works fine [:D]
Broken vent over climate control sensor on dash
Ciggie lighter not working again - think the contacts need adjusting
Rattle from passenger door trim - tried to fix but failed, will attempt again
Replace/adjust rear hatch pins due to intermittent squeak
Relace perished sun roof seal - sometimes squeaks but doesn't leak

Oh and replace missing /broken tabs for the rear hatch carpet

I think it only comes on with the bonnet up and the engine off and the lights on - or something like that.
