You may recall my thread a week or two back about whether to go for a Live-remap or not and I decided I would - Wayne Schofield of Chip Wizrdas, he of 9M fame worked his magic on my car yesterday and I thoght you may like to know the outcome - was far more interesting than I ever imagined.
1) Wayne thought the car wasn't running perfectly before he even started a dyno run. He said that only the day before he had had a 964RS which seemed to be just a bit off beat too and that had turned out to have had the ignition leads crossed over on a couple of the plugs meaning that one or two cylinders were only actually sparking on one plug each. An dguess what - mine too!
Thank You very much OPC Leeds for serviceing my car 3 months ago and not putting it back together in the right order. Strasse will get every service from now on. Unfortunaltely he corrected the mistake before doping a dyno run so I will never know the handicap this was causing.
2) There was a flat spot just before the top of the power curve before he started his jiggery pokery and after an hour of said jiggery pokery it still wouldn't budge. He figured out that the varioram was adjusting fine at it's first point further down the rev range but being a bit lazy higher up. A few taps on the keyboard later (thats what it seemed to me anyway but I am sure there was more to it than that) and the varioram ajustment point was moved ever so slightly so that it worked a treat - you could see the difference on the dyno immediately.
3) Wayne then does his before and after dyno runs so that they are back to back and the intervening couple of hours doesn't affect the readings (change in temperature etc). You get a true reading.
4) The results on paper.......
BEFORE - 278bhp @ 6270 rpm. 261 lbft (I thought this very good) @ 5320rpm
AFTER - 305bhp @ 6260 rpm, 282 lbft @ 4750 rpm
5) The results on the road......
Wow, I thought the car was marvellous before but the in gear pick up is astonishing. It is far far smoother (no doubt helped partly by rectifying JCT 600's little cock up). I cannot get over the difference. What I previously thought was great seems agricultural.
This cost £411. I am not on Wayne's payroll and hadn't met him beforre yesterday so when I say it's worth twice that amount - it is. (However, he should get himself a bit more organised, he needs a PA. My appointment was for 1pm and he started my car at 5pm but then put over 2.5 hours in to getting it right so I forgave him).
One very happy chappy.[]
