Looking at a few 944s this weekend what do you recon?

Both those cars look nice, but you'll never really know until you see them in the flesh and talk to the owner as well as look through the recent documentation. Both of those ads are a bit sparse on facts and not much detail about the recent maintenance, but a quick chat could resolve all of that.

I like the fact the S2 has been owned for 9 years. You can't own a car like this for that long and scrimp on the maintenance unless you lock it up in the garage and don't use it. It would have been a circa £10k car when he bought it and just a few panels damaged in the crunch would have been enough to write it off. Hopefully he'll have pics of the damage and can talk you through what was repaired.

As others have said, these are really reliable, bulletproof cars if they are looked after. I don't personally know of anyone in the club who has had a catastrophic failure of belts, chains, engines or clutches etc. However I have heard of dozens over the years from someone who has bought cheaply and then not paid attention to getting those things checked out asap before redlining it everywhere [;)]

I looked at an S2 that had been owned by someone for 9 years and walked, nee ran away!
It had 100k miles less than the one I bought, but felt like it had 100k more.
It hadn't been started for 2 months when I saw it and had done less than 1000 miles in the previous year, so it probably needed a bit of a thrash to clear it's throat a bit. Also the guy had constantly tinkered with the Hi-Fi, putting in new speakers and bass boxes, etc, so all the carpets were frayed around the edges.

There were numerous little niggles and it just didn't feel nice to drive, but saying all that I think underneath it all there was probably the foundations of a sound car, just not at the price he was asking!
