Hi all. Had an issue with my drivers side front brake today and wonder if anyone had any insight.
Bit of background, I’d be driving for a few hours in the Yorkshire Dales. Fairly spirited but not that hard and plenty of slower bits.
Out of the blue, the drives side front brake started to make a horrible scraping metallic sound. Very loud. The brake was also squeaking loudly even when not pressed. At first, I thought it must be something dragging on the ground or stuck in the wheel/brake. The brakes themselves worked fine.
Pulled over for 30 mins to let everything cool down (although not that hot) but didn’t make a difference. Nothing visible to see and it was far worse when going forward. Anyway, I was in the middle of nowhere about an hour from home so set of cautiously and after about 10 mins the noise just stopped. Checked the car again and couldn't see anything and nothing in the road to indicate something had fallen out. Drove normally the rest of the way home and a bit spirited at points and it was absolutely fine. No return of the sound.
I read a similar thread about stones getting stuck in the brake and wondered if it was this?
It‘s going into the OPC next Friday for this recall (grill replacement) so I’ll get it checked but wondered if anyone had/heard of this before?
Thanks
Kerry
