loving the feel and drive of my S2

New member
i took my s2 out earlier tonight and although the weather was dry,,lots of moisture had made the roads quite "greasy" and what fun!,,,
Going past the Olympic stadium and threading her through the underpass without braking and watching 90% of other cars brake lights coming on,,,,,,At the churchill statue roundabout i cornered boldly [:)] and felt the back end come out a tad before she straightened her -self out and it just made feel so much happier having an s2 back compared to the huge heavy merc i got rid off that had no real "feel" or very much feedback and was quite souless imo
i have all newish matching tyres but not the best so they will go sooner rather then later,,,little jobs like my heater is only working on full speed and defrost but the climate control is fine and i remember this occuring in my last s2,,cosmetics in the near future plus some work that Mark at MCCC and i knew would need attention but will leave that until the mot at the end of feb,,,,and i need a new back wiper so i get one of those aero wipers that Chris Graham mentioned,,,,
car is driving very well with all pressures spot on,, i need some new bulbs for the clock installed,,i have the bulbs as they come with the car..left in the dash when i took tenure,,,maybe the next job the previous owner was going to do before he sold her,,
bit of a non post just wanted to share how good it feels having a 944 back and how well they drive and that lovely burble from my new dansk,,,,,,,jasonp

Analogue cars are the business, hoping to take my turbo out tomorrow if the salt has been cleared from the roads.
Spome rain up here in Cumbria, surprise surprise !

great to hear that you're enjoying your car Jason, that's what owning these beauties is all about..

Frenchy,,,,
if i lived somewhere as beautiful as the lake district i think i could put up with the rain....
Dont know what sort of welcome cockneys would get moving up there though[:D].....
Thanks Pete and she feels so very much lighter then both the r32 and the SL and although thats stating the obvious i still really noticed the difference after not driving an s2 for 2 and half years,,,,,
Her balance still amazes me and how strong she feels through the box,,,,so looking forward to driving her tommorow,,more time to get to know each other,,,,,,,

I think that you'd find that they are a friendly bunch Jason, a good few years back we had a group meet over one great weekend in the lake district. There was quite a few of us and we had a fab time, I took my wife and two of my young son's, we stayed at a fellow PCGB members lovely house, my memory is very bad but think his name was 'Dave' we used to joke that he glowed in the dark as he worked at Sellafield nuclear plant. IIRC Tony (Foote) and Paul Smith (diver944) were both present , weather was kind and roads were fantastic, plus back then there was only one, speed camera in the county....happy days....:)

Thats nice to know Pete,,,
Nothing like a friendly welcome in a new area,,
i will avoid a rant about speed cameras,,,,especially those really sneaky ones on the m2/a2 at the m25 turn off,,,,,jsonp

Yes, it was a great weekend.
During one of the group drives we went to a slate mine on the top of one of the 'mountains' which were covered in snow but the roads were clear and, as Pete said, the roads were great and we had some superb driving. One memorable part of the drive was going through Kendal's main street and watching the locals' heads following each car in disbelief as almost 20 944s passed by.
We stayed at Mark's (the guy who organised the weekend) parents' B&B along with Steve Pritchard and Nick Fearne and their wives in Cockermouth.

Fond memories Chris...good old titanic days... an atmosphere that IMHO has never been captured by PCGB..sad to say...great days when there was so much 944 stuff to get involved with....I was at an event most months, sometimes more, I remember the meal up at Doncaster one evening....hell of a drive both ways from London just for an evening meet but it was fun...today events are few in comparison...s

You should organise something, Pete!

I agree that the old 944 meets haven't been bettered in recent years other than Rutland - that must be being thought about soon?

The old Titanic meets weren't all perfect though: seven cold owners in the drizzly car park of a Reading pub with pretty awful food wasn't the high point of my ownership experience! :ROFLMAO: Let alone the abuse I got from one aggressive, nasty character for saying so..... []

It would be nice to see more Register presence at different events, but as always it's lack of people volunteering to help out that's the issue. The recent Register event didn't have a great 944 turnout, but with all the events it really needs someone who's attending to help set up an area and meet people.

Silverstone Classic used to be one of the biggest 944 events, with loads of us meeting up for lunch one of the days. Why not all get together on the Saturday or Sunday next year? [:)]

Alas! I have far too much going on to get involved organising things, plus I never know until the last minute if I can actually attend an event so no way can I start organising them, it would be bad form to do so and then not turn up?...There was something special about 'Titanic' and it's meetings, this was more a group of like-minded individuals who became friends than a club so to speak. I guess it's also down to being a lot younger and fitter back then, I could do more crazy things....:)

Sadly that's what most people say, hence the problem getting events to have a 944 area or gathering!

It's all how you treat it though. When I first joined Titanic was quite "cliquey", with the same guys at every meet all knowing each other. Luckily I'm not shy so did the legwork, and now count a lot of them amongst my friends 12-odd years later. PCGB always seemed more friendly and open to me back then at the 944 level, although not at the region at the time. A lot of it's down to the first impression!

Pete you will have stopped at Dave Garners house, he now runs. Cayenne Turbo and a GT40 rep, tracking it on a regular basis, Mark Roberts now has a beautiful MGA, a E46 M3 and an Aston Martin Vantage.
Yes happy days,I have been spoiled this year doing the Spa Classic, Silverstone Classic and the Nurburing Oldtimer, only one euro jolly planned for next year so if there is interest I could sort something out for forum members in the lakes, there is a very good super car show at the Westmorland Showground in May which will see a fair bit of Pork there, if there is enough interest we could sort something around this which has good motorway access junction 39 for people to make their way home from ?
If anyone is interested in this or something else organised, shout up and I can do some legwork up here.
Took my Turbo out for a gentle blast today, not too far as we have loads of crap on the roads so local dual carriageways only, might have a run out to nice spot I know near Keswick next weekend to get some cracking holly that I know of........jingle bells !

ahh.. yes that's him Jim, Mr Garner...GT40 rep...nice...I had forgotten about Mark, wasn't it he who organised the lakes weekend? MGA is nice, my uncle restored one about 40 years ago. I like the idea of another Lakes weekend and would do my best to attend....I can't say for certain as I never really know what my health will be like...today it's bloody awful....:( i know that my wife would love a return trip, we both love the area , in fact we were considering a return last year but ended up back at our usual haunt in Wales (a little easier to get too), both very similar for beautiful views

Pete

The notion of a Lake District meet would appeal hugely to me; my family owns an estate just outside Broughton-in-Furness and I don't go there enough. A good meet of 944 owners somewhere where there are top-notch roads would be a mighty big draw ....

Oli.

I will put my name down......I won't be able to confirm until nearer the time, sorry about that but it's the world that i live in these days.......fingers crossed, though...:)

Pete

I would be interested in a return but very dependent on workload, sure I can shift some stuff around though!
Tony
