Luggage cover

This should be an easy question for someone out there to answer... Can anyone tell me if the optional luggage cover will fit any 944, or are there special mounting points required? I don' t have a cover, but was thinking of getting one.

Hi Bert,
Don' t the cars with split rear seats have a cloth thing rather than the roller blind?
Tony

Yes, the split rears have a big square cloth with a hook at each corner on elastic. These clip into the hooks on the tailgate latches and push into two ' mounting holes' just below the rear seat belt mounts. The Roller blind is much, much better IMO

Hmm...as I have a split rear, it sounds like I can' t have a roller blind [:(] I haven' t seen the square cloth option, but it doesn' t sound too promising!

I had a roller blind on my split rear seats, but as it was fixed to the back of both seats, it stopped them working independently.

The spring had gone so the blind wouldn' t retract either - it just had to go!!!

Hi guys

I refer to my topic left yesterday. Are we talking about the same thing???

Hi guys

With Le Mans looming, I was curious, is there a special " luggage bag" that fits over the back seats of the 944 cabriolet? My friend has just bought a Mercedes SL500 and as an optional extra there was a " luggage bag" that fits over his rear seats.

Regards

Phil

Sorry Phil [:(] we' re talking about what is basically a blind that covers the rear boot in the hatchback of the coupes.

I think what you are after is some tailor made luggage that will fit into your bucket seats in the back yes? I wouldn' t have thought that Porsche thought about this back in the early 90' s and you will have to make do with some squashy bags.

I know the new Boxsters have tailor made metal suticases that fit exactly in their front and rear boots, but thats more of a ' modern' thing that manufacturers try to flog you. I think Mclaren started it all off with their F1, a very practical hypercar [:D]

If both rear seats fold down together, the luggage cover should be a roller blind that screws into the seat back, with a vinyl cover that pulls out and hooks onto the boot catches.

If you have a split folding rear seat, the luggage cover is fabric and attaches into those two holes in the side and onto the two boot catches at the rear. There are aftermarket ones which staple [] to the back of the seats

It sounds like you have the fabric one and need a roller blind. The roller blinds are easier to find in the 2nd hand parts places so you should not have a problem. I would be interested in your blue fabric cover if it's genuine as my split folding one is missing. Email me at diver944 at yahoo dot com if you want to sell it on [:D]

I thought it sounded like he has a roller blind and needs a suspended one.

If your car has a split folding seat you should have the suspended blind. I've only ever had split folding seats in my cab so I'm no expert on them but...

If you have a one-piece rear seat back then the roller blind screws on with a big, coarse threaded screw either end. The screw goes through the carpet on the back of the seat so the holes may not be apparent even if they are there.

I sold a blue roller blind with a couple of chips in the paint on eBay for £42 recently, so if it's wrong and you paid under £40 you should be OK to sell it on for money back.

thanks

to clarify, my car has split fold seats. I have bought a plastic (i think) roller blind that screws into the seats.

from what you say, i should have the suspended fabric one. Although i suppose i could still screw it to the back of the seats but would be unable to use the split fold, but thats not a problem.

Diver944 - is this a blind that you are still interested in, or are you after the other type?

Sorry Phil I'm after the suspenders [:D]

I haven't looked too hard but I think you may struggle to find one. I've been looking (half-heartedly) since I bought the Turbo nearly three years ago [8|]

There is a company in the US that makes an aftermarket copy, but it staples to the rear seats and costs nearly £200 []

Good luck

Paul,

You mean this one?

http://store.davidhonl.com/lugcovpor968.html

It says "'Floats on elastic cords to allow either or both seats to be in the down position, just like the factory piece. All necessary hardware included; installs in minutes." so maybe not? $249.95 [:(]

Jim.

Hmmm I'm not sure, I think it's the same company but it sounds like they have improved it now so that it is just like the factory one. I bumped into someone at some show somewhere (vague eh?) who had the 'stapled' one and he gave me the web address. When I checked it out and saw the price I instantly banished it from my mind. $250 at the current exchange rate for a proper cover does not seem so bad. Would work out to about £175 if the customs men clobbered me

I wonder if the connectors that attach to the side of the car are available as seperate parts? If so I would just need a piece of cloth, two pieces of elastic and the connectors

I no expert but as I understand it there are two different styles depending on whether you have the split rear seats or the one piece rear seats. For the later, I believe it mounts to the seat back as you say and is retractable but for the split seat arrangement, it's just a simple cover that hooks into the sides of the boot space, just aft of the seats.

However, I could be wrong....[]

I have the saggy, baggy, 968, hearse like one. I prefer it over the roller blind. It rises with the hatch so doesn't get in the way, less fiddling about. My old roller blind next retracted properly it was a real pain.
