Luggage cover

In reply to the original question - I think it was standard fit, simply becuase I have never seen a 944 without one.

Although I could be wrong.

Well if that's the case, I can't see where mine has been unscrewed[&:]??!

As my car is a late (91) production turbo, would it have had the 968 type and what does that look like - I have looked for pictures but am still non the wiser![8|]

Everything is customisable from Porsche when new so maybe the customer specified a luggage cover delete? If it had the roller blind cover there will be small holes in the carpet at the top of the rear seat back to fit the blind.

The other type was standard with all split seat cars (standard on Turbo) and is basically a nylon sheet with a piece of elastic at each corner. The front two elastics clip into two holes in the trim just behind the upper mount for the rear seat belts. The two rear elastics clip onto the brackets by the latch pin mechanisms

Split seat cover is a tube with elasticated rope that twist clips into ferrules on the rear pillar and has a roll out cover (split also) that covers the whole boot (and the rear seat area when or if the front seats are folded down.

The other type is a sprung roller blind (which I`d like if its in Burgundy anyone?)

Nick,

Has yours the split rear seat, or the single-back ones?

If it's the split type, then the cover that would have been fitted (as per the one pictured by Paul - Hilux) doesn't have anything screwed into the back of the seats, I think. (I could be wrong.)

I have always been amazed by the Porsche design of rear-load-area covers, as they alway struck me as being very jury-rigged. The earlier ones are put to shame by the equivalent on Golfs of that era, and the later ones have always reminded me of Citroen 2CV roofs ... <awaits flaming>

Mine has one of the sprung roller blind jobbies,in burgundy too. Its nice!!!!!

What colour is your interior Nick? I have a brown rear cover sat in my garage if that is of any use to you. Can bring it to Oulton if wanted.

Cheers,

nice carpets Paul ! I take it they are all new ?
Split seats were very rare as I understand it. One of my books said it was only available on the sports special ? I'll look it up tonight. I seem to recall its the 944 with the Porsche decals and stipes along the sills .They had a special engine too a 16 valve head and there were only a handful made according to Cotton.

Thanks, however I`ll have to state that they are original carpets. The interior carpets are also in an equally good condition as its had the original Porsche overmats from new which ironically are also nearly immaculate.

I thought the split rear seats were Silver Rose spec and an option after that. (My cars a non sunroof Silver Rose spec but with the striped upholstery) I tried to buy an immaculate Burgundy full leather interior from Porscheapart (I think it was) a week ago but was pipped at the post.

I want to fit some sports seats (Recaro/Cobra etc) so I can use harnesses but they dont do them in Burgundy but I cant imagine what other colour would look good, any suggestions........any Burgundy cars with alternative aftermarket seats out there?

I'm sure Southbound would upholster a Recaro bucket set in whatever colour you want £££££ [;)]

Failing that I think you are stuck with either red or black which almost all makes seem to do

Talking about leather re-trims, who else (apart from Southbound £££) can anyone recommend?

There was a chap at the Silverstone day in October who said he had had an interior done by someone at what sounded like a very good price indeed. Apparently he was so impressed he was taking his office chair back to have it done as well ... who was that chap, and what was the company in question?

Hi Paul, I know its £££££`s. [&:][&:]...........thats why I dont know what to do. Nothing really contrasts well with Burgundy (or pinstripe) Even a nice black Momo steering wheel will look odd. I remember seeing a burgundy Porsche sports steering wheel (the nice looking ones, cant remember what they are called) in Burgundy on e-bay a couple of years ago and thought that its final price of £150 was too dear.........[&o][&o]

What I really need is somone to photoshop the seats with a different colour.

My rear seat is the one piece type and I have a roller blind fitted as standard.
I have seen these on ebay quite often.

Waded through the 13 yrs worth of invoices that came with the car and found one for a s/h cover from PCT cars 4 years ago, so it looks like the previous owner ditched when he started on his trackday car conversion.

I think I'll forget about it and spend the money (& then some[8|]) on getting some cosmetic bits and pieces on the bodywork sorted.

Thanks anyway

Turbo S models (silver rose) came with split rear seats as standard and the fabric load cover I think it was another weight saving measure, later models had a split rear seat option and were fitted with the fabric blind.
One piece rear seat back cars had the roller type blind fitted Simon at porsch-a-part will have one.
I think all 968 came with the lighweight fabric type .

The fabric ones are circa £500 new!

The split seats have a different fabric boot cover. It is not the roller blind that you often see - this screws to the rear of the rear seats so wouldn't work on split seats.
They seem quite hard to come by unfortunately.
