M030 upgrade

Rockape,

Look under the bonnet for a sticker, and/or in the front of the service book (if the sticker is missing). There is a list of code numbers, if 030 is listed then you have the M030 sports suspension.

Edit - Richard beat me to it! I didn't notice we had started a second page...[8|]

Well the good news is that it is still available as a kit. The bad news is now I've eliminated that as an excuse for procrastinating I'll have to decide whether to do it or not do it...

Could I suggest you consider the Bilstein PSS9 adjustable shox/spring pack when you change to the M030 anti-roll bars? I use this on my race car and let's just say that when I lose the current additional 80kgs weight I'm carrying and get an LSD fitted I don't think there will be a car in the Club championship that will corner with me. The advantage is that when you're driving in London, soften it up - and on a trackday have a bit of a tinker with the firmer set-ups and ride-heights and upset the GT3 brigade....

PASM equivalent without the electronic jiggery-pokery. Neat, eh?
Marcus

Along with Marcus' suggestion, there are other alternatives out there (that'll confuse things eh? [;)])

In a short space of time I drove my own S with M030 Sports suspension and 17" wheels, a Facelift S on 18" wheels and standard suspension, and the Ruf 3600S (a 3.6 Ruf Boxster) which had Ruf's own suspension setup and 19" wheels.

My car is firm, with no dive, squat, or roll. But you feel every bump, pothole etc.

The standard car felt horrible in comparison - dive under braking, squat under accelleration, and felt like the doorhandles were scraping the tarmac in corners (this is the standard setup which most are happy with - I'm just comparing to how it felt compared to the M030!) It was however much more "comfortable" over bumps etc.

The Ruf was a revelation. Ignoring the performance ([8D]) it was comfortable, but still communicated all the nuances of the road surface in the same way as the M030, it had no dive, squat or roll, didn't crash over potholes (not that there are many around Pfaffenhausen [;)]). and all this on 19" wheels (a good few years before they were offered on the 987).
The Ruf really took the best points and put them all together in one system.

I don't know how they can do it but Porsche can't.

Budget may be a limitation here...

The Bilstien kit is nearly £1400 before fitting, and I'm not trying to create a racecar either. The car needs to remain useable in my everyday commute, as well as having some touring/long distance capability and work on track. With no other reference it does these things today well. I don't think its quite as bad as you suggest Mark. Favouring one aspect may compromise another, but these things are always a compromise somewhere, including cost.

Mark if you're at the next R29 meet, perhaps we can compare rides?

I did try to say it's not bad [:D] Just how it felt in comparison when I got in to it straight from my own car.

No offence menat to those with standard suspension. It more than beats most other cars as standard [:)]

Edit: Which one is R29? I can remember R1, R2... and after that it all gets too confusing[&:]

If you get the alignment set to Nic's trackday settings the car becomes an extension of your limbs.

Forget your chips, wide-boy exhausts and bling, 030 is by far the best value option for your 986. [8D]

Sorry to hijack a bit, but where can I find the info on the set-up? Is it applicable to the non-upgraded suspension too, and how does it affect the handling balance of the car, ie, more front or rear biased, and also is there anywhere that I can find the stock set-up?

Anyone know of any breakers / 2nd hand parts folk who may have this suspension?

Thanks folk, and apologies once again.[:)]

Everything pointing dead ahead with as much negative camber all around.

Ooooooooh. Ta. No toe, then?[8|] And not a touch more neg on the front, or would that mebbes make the rear prone to oversteer more? I like a "pointy" car...[&:]

As stated no toe and as much - all round.

A pointy Boxster is an accident waiting to happen.

Smashing - thanks very much. I thought it may be the case, but I'm used to FWD.... [&o]
