Macan GTS 19" Spare Wheel / Collapsible tyre

Any help please ?
After a bad experience 10 days ago where I had part of a front tyre sidewall torn out & then losing 5 hours before getting a replacement tyre installed, I'm looking at buying the Porsche collapsible tyre space saver wheel option.

Because mine has the bigger GTS (& Turbo ?) brakes, I'm led to believe only the 19" diameter wheel / tyre combination will fit over the brakes. The issue then is whether it will fit in the spare wheel area of the boot.

Via a trawl of all of the Porsche Macan forums, I've not found any reference to someone adding the 19" collapsible space saver - only the 18" to smaller braked versions of the car.
There's been lots of discussion about the problems of installing a full size or reduced width "spacer saver" (BUT not collapsible) wheel / tyre in the spare wheel IF the BOSE subwoofer is installed - but nothing I've seen to suggest the 19" collapsible tyre will fit. Most seem to have given up when told the spare wheel / tyre will cost £800 plus .

Does anyone know if the 19" Porsche collapsible tyre / wheel combination can be fitted with the BOSE still in place ?

If anyone has the 19" spare in place, but NO BOSE, are they willing to let me visit & try it in my boot as a check ?

I've contacted my local Solihull OPC & they've come back with the Porsche UK line that they can't recommend fitment of the 19" wheel tyre because of "possible" problems with the brakes & the BOSE sub-woofer - without further detail
As the collapsible spare wheel was a car configurator option when the car was new, I can't see how there can be a brake problem as my car has the standard GTS brakes (NOT PCCB options which I know are larger still).
I think they're just opting out of helping solve the problem.

I've got a near neighbour with a Macan S with 18" collapsible tyre / wheel & much to my surprise, it's actually quite a loose fit in the spare wheel well - with more than an inch gap between the tyre and the BOSE sub-woofer -suggesting a 19" might fit.

Any help welcome !
It's certainly put a dampener on my enjoyment of country roads !

Hi Paulus

I have a Macan Turbo with performance pack (2017 MY) which has larger front discs and I purchased a 19" space save spare wheel (ie. collapsible tyre), tool kit and jack from OPC and as you say it's £800+. No problem with fitting in boot with BOSE sub-woofer. It gives me piece of mind if I should encounter a puncture.

Let me know if you require a photo of the install

Graham,

thanks for responding & great to know the 19" collapsible should fit !
A photo would be great if you don't mind.

It would also confirm if my BOSE sub-woofer is the same as yours.
I'd hope it hasn't changed over the 4 years between our cars, so my "available space" is the same as yours - lol.

Graham, you are star ! Many thanks !

The sub-woofer looks identical to my 2021 car.
I'm amazed by the clearance to the sub-woofer, it is a larger gap than the neighbour's Macan with an 18" collapsible spare !
I can see your 19" is a 195/65 x 19 & the neighbour's is a 195/75 x 18 - so it is 12mm smaller on diameter than the 18" when inflated & more importantly only 7mm smaller than my 21" standard front tyres - so a pretty good diameter match for driving on.
I did try my standard front wheel in the boot & it would have required 3 inches cutting out of the sub-woofer to fit - lol. The collapsible tyre must "grow" significantly when inflated !

Order for a 19" spare being made in the next few minutes.

Thanks again

Hi Paulus,

You're most welcome and hope you get it sorted so you can enjoy Macan driving in peace!

Cheers, Graham

A final update to say the 19" collapsible spare finally arrived at my local OPC with the relevant plastic retainer and is now installed (with an aftermarket jack & the original Porsche compressor for inflation).
Absolutely extortionate cost of £730 including Porsche Club discount (versus £269 cost if ordered with the car when new)

The plastic retainer is a cheap generic VW / Audi part (1K0803899).
The "screw" is located into a slot in a small raised section of the floor after peeling back a couple of small "tabs" pre-cut in the floor carpet.
The retainer has a piece of foam on the bottom that acts as a spring to stop the retainer moving after being installed. The retainer has to be pushed down into the slot (pretty hard to compress the foam), then twisted through 90 degrees to locate it properly, then released.20250319_224117mod.jpg

The spare wheel then goes in with the retainer through the centre bore & then has the separate flange of the retainer screwed on to clamp the wheel in place.

As said previously, the 19" spare is a very comfortable fit in the space available & is not close to the BOSE sub-woofer at all.

For anyone interested, the pencil markings on the masking tape on the BOSE sub-woofer indicate where a full size wheel & tyre would sit !
Graham, thanks again for the info giving me the confidence to go-ahead.

Hi Paul

Thanks for giving an update on the conclusion of your original post. I'm sure this will help other Macan GTS owners in the same situation.

Cheers, Graham
