MAF sensor recurring issue- help needed please

I agree that it isn't likely to be major, but a dodgy MAF doesn't usually cause an erratic idle. If your car is running slightly rich, it isn't likely to be an air leak, but comparing the FRAU/RKAT values with the above should confirm. I would also check the MAF output, to see if the output is around 15-16Kg/hour (depending which model you have) and see that it increases progressively with revs. If it does, then I think your problem might be the tank venting valve. The MAF, TVV, and Fuel Pressure are common to both banks, as are air leaks, of course.

You are right - it is horribly complicated.
 
I wish to inspect and clean the MAF on my 2K 2.7 986.
The trick is both fixing screws are rusted really badly and can't be shifted. The ducting holding the sensor needs to come out on to the bench for some serious thread removal
QUESTION How's the section of ducting removed?
Downstream it's easy to remove the section up to the throttle body. Upstream however I can't see anything that looks like a fixing
