Hi Pete,

have a a look at this I just found seems to be for a m3 rated for 420 Bhp but seems they do quite a lot of models including porsche but I was thinking something this kind of shape .

this measures up around 236mm height by 230 I think width but they must do all different types and shapes

Hi Daniel...I'm sure if it fits that it would be fine ....I haven't fitted a 'Porsche' recommended filter for many years, at least 15....:) the only important part is that the filter has a 3" ID outlet as my pipework is all 3" and I don't want to reduce this...

cheers

I was thinking if this one fit in the gap, I would make a collar just shy of 3” and make a large washer around it and with and weld together so that you could cut a hole in the top and connect with bolts to the top of this one in the picture. Then you could weld a bracket onto the collar also as well as using it to connect your 3" ductinng.

i could draw you what I mean it would be very simple but if your just gonna go with a cone that you can find then fair enough but it wouldnt take much time if you have the tools.

If you fo come to that point and want some ideas I am glad to do you a drawing of what I mean and discription.

i havnt got much time on my hands myself but I could muster that up pretty quick and send it over to you.

I may even purchase this one as it does seem the right sort of size I was thinking of myself and then I would mod it pretty much as I’ve explained.

Ahh if only I had time to play at the moment ??( I’m still plastering at the moment and I must get back to the ceiling before it dries! )

let me know now if you beed any inspirational ideas if you go down that sort of route if making up your own ??

no no rest for the wicked

Thanks for the offer Daniel, I'm sure that I'll get it sorted, not this side of xmas though and don't mention 'DIY' my house is crying out for some work...lol

I use a "large" Injen cone filter with an inversed cone at its top, located below the horns. My car being a 90 it does not use the air ducts as seen on the '86 (I use 968 brake ducts which most likely work better), and as A/C was removed, I had enough room to route 3" piping all the way from the turbo inlet to below the horns since the aperture alongside the side member where the A/C bottle usually sits is wide enough to allow 3" piping to go through. In this area it is held in place with thick-ish rubber gaskets so that the aluminium piping does not rub against the shell.
I needed to cut the windstopper on the headlight frame and the headlight vibrates a bit but not enough to be an inconvenience.

thanks for the link.. no problem hijacking the thread, after all it's my thread...:)

Id be wary of fitting a filter that low, you would be surprised how easily you could suck up water.

Never had a problem with the filter placed so low even in pouring rain or after power washing the car. I use the Injen sock.

No bumper on my car at the moment Peter, will grab some pics and measurements when back at the garage in the morning. Will message them to you via FB.
