Minty's First track outing (With me!)

Yep they certainly were, Colin! I've got some B&W snaps that a mate of mine took at Old Hall and developed himself (he was into photography - but not very good!) of Gerry Marshall mega sideways in a Vauxhall Firenza production saloon in the wet!

And I can see it now... Gerry in "Baby Bertha" (Holden V8 powered Firenza "Super Saloon") coming round Devil's Elbow at Mallory jiggling on the edge of grip... awesome!

In fact.... here it is! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkxxpMI__5o

The tyres used 7 years ago were Hoosier Cross Plys, not fancy slicks. Also, it's not quite true to say that the Toyo are the regulation tyre now for the AMOC, you can still run Hoosier (next year may be different).

If you want to discount the professional Gerry, Phil Bennett et al, there are still plenty of other light weight DB4s which are quicker than RSs. I am, of course, a big fan of the 964 RS but the reality is, even if you were driving the RS, that the Aston with a steady club racer would be the quicker car.

But that's not true is it? I have already proved I have lapped Oulton as fast if not faster in an RS than a good club racer in a DB4!

Hoosiers are quicker than R888's btw!

This should be settled at TSL - its the only way. Certainly the DB4s pace there was a few seconds faster than the 993RS, given driver differences, the DB4s dont look slower. Cant find data for Outlon Park international though, looks like AMOC hasnt been there with DB4s.

I wasn't saying the DB4's were slower, Hugh, just that they weren't "significantly faster" as Damen had said.

AMOC was at Oulton a month ago, on the 3 October... check the DB4's qualifying times in both the AMOC Classic and the AMOC Intermarque: http://tsl-timing.com/amoc/2009/94054.pdf... fastest 1.56.778

Now check the results for the Porsche Club championship: http://tsl-timing.com/cscc/2009/92464.pdf... fastest race lap for Marcus Carniel in a 964C2 was 156.979, just two tenths slower, that's a C2 with 250bhp, standard brakes, slightly uprated dampers, stripped out and a cage fitted, running on Pilot Cup tyres... as near as makes no difference to a standard 964RS... an uprated RS (such as ChrisW's Club Sport) should be quicker.

Well Tim, you could well be right!

A few pics from my first outing then.

Anyone care to suggest why I'm lifting a wheel on turn on? Is the front a bit too stiff? Or the rear a bit soft? Car is mid way front and back at the moment. I understand full hard front and mid back is about right (thank-you Charles). Do people think that would cure this, or in fact make it worse. I know the whole car needs setting up (in next years budget), More a point for discussion really. This is at turn in to the esses, so braking from 110 and taken in 3rd gear (about 80mph), mallory is quite flat here.

Fair play - good to know. Love white with black wheels! Very fetching.

Thank you - it was my son´s idea. Minty with satin black wheels is also awesome.

TBH, I coat them in Zymol and it comes off easily enough.....[8|]

Next time I have them refurbed I may go for the '92 colour scheme....

It's been covered now but as the others say, normal for a 911 (and various other cars). It's having all the weight at the back making it squat on the outside rear as it loads up, the car pivots along the diagonal (outside front / inside rear) and if the front is even mildly stiff the opposite corner has only one way to go - up! Fun Cup cars do it too! [;)]

Even F1 cars do it...
