Most Abstract Experiences

It can't just be me. The other day whilst expecting the return of my 993V from the Garage (being transported via low rider) a fully armoured policeman knocks at my door. "Nothing to be concerned about sir, we just wanted to know if this was your vehicle""¦ I stepped outside to see three more armoured police men, bullet vests, squad car & everything, over seeing the return of my car. What a sight. "" It seems having spotted her they decided to escort her back the last few miles to my house. Apparently some cars are now "being stolen via low rider""¦

On another occasion when I walked out of a hotel in KÅ‘ln I was stumped to find eight men (from a coach party) stood in a neat line parallel to my car inspecting her. They were about half a meter away"¦ 'Don't mind me' I thought as I got in"¦

There's more, I could go on all day. I have had photographs taken of me whilst driving on two separate occasions in central London by complete strangers and had a man in the queue of a Shell petrol station ask if he could borrow my car for the weekend to take his misses out. - It can't be just me, I'll be interested & no doubt entertained to learn of other drivers abstract experiences.

I think it's just you.

I've been called "w**k*r" by a a group of youths wearing hooded tops and trainers and I've also had my bonnet crest stolen (pobably by the same youths).

Sorry nothing out of the ordinary that can match your experiences.

I do find people stare around here, as a 993 is a pretty rare sight in this part of South Wilts. Every day I get long lingering glances from passers by (usually male, unfortunately.)

I wouldn't have thought that an "old" 911 would rate a second glance, but that is clearly not the case. I wonder if 996 drivers receive the same attention ?

Lots of good experiences, non bad so far...... fingers crossed.

Best one that stood out - a young lad on his bike going down our street clearly in a rush to get somewhere, I turned the corner and when he saw the car he just slammed his brakes on and stared in a way only a young lad could..... and he wouldn't stop staring, open mouthed, until I'd disappeared in to my drive.

It was great - exactly how I would have been at his age.

It might not be an all too familiar feeling within PCGB, but from various outings and meetings I had with a variety of porsches and within a variety of clubs, its especially the old 911's and 356 that grab the yoofs and media luvvies attention. "respek" I recall to have heard. [:D]

Myself leading oliver, at a great rate of knots around the 'ring' earlier this year, it was late on, and we were on our own approaching one of the numerous sweeping right hand bends (cant recall the name...oliver?), which was one of the viewing areas.

As we drove around the bend, the spectators were on their feet, clapping and shouting at the two 911's, whos drivers thought it was their magnificent driving skills, that were driving them into a frenzy[:D]. actually it was a very partisan crowd applauding 2 of stuggarts finest......[:)]

I haven't a clue which the corner was Glenn but as I remember it, we were heading through one of the 'faster' sweeping right handers. I just heard a racket and Melanie could see a crowd of people on the banking. I think you started the excitement by going full bore through the corner with those Cargraphics of yours on full song. They seemed to appreciate that. When I popped into view a few lengths behind, they went bonkers!!! I think the sight of two 993's gunning through the corner must have been a bit much for them..... [:D]

It definitely put a smile on my face, but the really nice thing was they seemed to be showing genuine appreciation for two of the lesser powered cars present on the day, that were probably two of the lesser driven ones too!!!!

God I want to go back...............[8D][8D]

Jane and I are finishing the Sedan rally on Sunday 24th at (wait for it) Sedan which is 2 hours from the Ring. We are booked into the Dorint and according the website there is 2 hours for a whizz from 17:30 on. The White 2.7 will look for your fans and give them a couple of blackies if they're in the mood.[:)]

Day1zero,

That's just great. I can't image you felt particularly safe while that was going on. Certainly gives a new perspective on the whole "˜using a mobile whilst driving' argument"¦

I think I have become blind to most occurrences of attention now, eyes on the road etc"¦ but a girl friend of mine in Germany liken being driven around in my 993V to wearing a mini skirt with the sudden rush of attention.

Kenny,

That is a nice experience. It seems like only yesterday I was that lad, skateboard in hand (at the time when Yuppies were all over the news) gazing at a passing 911"¦
- Strange how the feelings of longing and admiration felt as a child remains the same even in ownership.

Mark,

Ah the 993 is the better and most loved 911. I think it has become the bench mark shape with which the masses associate as the true 911.

I was at the carphonewarehouse getting some advice on car hands free etc & all the chap kept saying was "this one is my favourite shape, I don't like the newer ones""¦ Seemed to have kicked off a trend. A month ago I parked outside a super market and this chap (dress sense styled around a harlequin version of Jamiroquai hat and everything) said "That is a beautiful car man, if ever I had a car I would want one just like that""¦ - That was a rare and special moment.
