My 1981 911 SC Targa

So this is my latest purchase, looks better than it really is with its clothes off, full restoration needed as left on drive for over 30 years uncovered.
Strip down started and let’s see.

The roof is a big enough project on its own as the alloy has disintegrated as water laden.have to remain positive

Look on the bright side, at least all of the horrors are visible and not hidden under fresh filler and paint!
 
Well done for saving it and good luck with getting it back to its former glory.
This is going to take a lot of work (and money) but I am sure will be worth it in the end if you plan on keeping it.
Are you doing most of the work yourself ?
 
I did my rough 1973 coupe in 1988/89 and it was worse than that then!

Be great when you get going. If DIY then it will be very rewarding, just will have to get a lot worse to get much better!

I still have my '73, now with a 3.2 engine in it and all the repairs done (DIY) are still sound about 70k / 35 years later.
Keep it and reap what you sow.

Keep the updates coming along.
 
So a good weekend stripping 🙈
very productive and so many boxes of bits, as you can imagine I have an extensive list of parts required, so time to get researching and using my best contacts, i have restored numerous motorcycles right down to a Raleigh chopper but not a car.
looking forward to this journey and hopefully will end in good news.

Getting the glass out was the worst job and have to admit not looking forward to the reinstallation:oops:
Was so nervous with the rear curved screen, but after cutting the seal and applying pressure from inside it suddenly popped and nearly slipped right out.

Great to hear you also had the challenge, and gives me inspiration if yours was even worse, will keep the thread updated as long as the finance lets me.

DDK has a healthy Sale/Wanted section on the forum.

A set of 6" Cookies and 7" also were for sale recently on DDK, the 6" wheels were fully painted, ready for tyres.

Cookies are now quite an unusual wheel on an early 911, so nice to be different, and probably original to your car year?

now searching for a standard steering wheel and cookie cutters
I have a set of original cookie cutters (dated 1979 I think) that may not go back on mine as I‘m currently sporting Fuchs. If you are still looking when you are putting back together I should have made my mind up by then.
Which steering wheel is correct for an ‘81? There is a steering wheel in my frunk that was supposed to be the original for mine (I’m using a momo prototipo at the moment) but I think the ’78 and ‘79 had a different steering wheel to the ’80 onwards. Although from what I vaguely remember reading the one I have isn’t right for mine so it might be right for yours.
Any authenticity experts out there care to chime in?
