My 944 1uz-fe V8 swap

Bag tank? The plastic tank in particular was in the best possible place. This is why they're never moved on well-built (ie, not 'because race car') racers. I understand that youre playing with it, but Im not sure that Id have gone for the double pipe.
 
To be honest the tank is still in the same place, just none of it hanging down where the new silencer is on the right. At the end of the day it is what it is, i wanted twin pipes because that is what works and sounds best with a V8, and i wanted to build a V8 944, not settle for a 928.
 
I investigated that option George as i really wanted that look, to exit just before the rear wheel, a slash cut tail with a stainless surround was my initial idea, but routing to that spot was impossible without having the exhaust hung very low and it has to navigate past the torsion bar mounts, i just couldn't make it work, also nowhere for silencers of any kind..... shame really.
 
Many years ago I ran the exhausts each side in the sills and fitted side exit pipes on the Ginetta G27 V8 I rebuilt MOT's no problem - but blew little puffs of dust off driveways each side when cruising slowly [:D]

Must be a Paul thing....[:D] But seriously, its nice if it works with the body construction, the 944 is difficult for sure. Excellent Ginetta leaf blower Hilux [:)] That just leaves exiting MB SLR style thru the front wings, but the engine bay's too short, and that just leave straight thru the bonnet a la Massey Ferguson I think you have done right Woodsport George 944t
 
Thanks George, having studied other American V8 944 builds there is no easy way to go dual, remodelling the tank seems to be the only option, itching to hear what it sounds like now. Paul.
 
I can imagine after all the effort Good to see Hilux Hilux too [:)] we have a '93 two door 2.4D. As Top Gear demonstrated, they are a tough machine [8|] Gorge 944t
 
More 944 shenannigans.... my custom made fuel tank is now fitted, i had to make new bracketry for it and it still needs boxing in but it is in place, it protrudes into the boot by 5", so i am going to box that area in neatly and i have plenty of burgundy carpet to make a factory looking job of it.

Ok so a little more progress, i decided not to use Porsches gearbox hanger bracket, mine was rusty and quite frankly looked weak as piss, so i built my own using box section...

This is much stronger than the original and has crush tubes inside the box. I then decided to give the gearbox some lateral bracing, i read about people going solid mount and having huge vibrations through the chassis, well that isn't for me, so my attempt to tighten things up at the rear is two stabiliser links, hung from my new crossmember and tied into the gearbox casing, these should help to keep things steadier with the V8 without transmitting vibration.

Have i got this right? Well we will have to see, it's certainly better than nothing and won't harm anything.

but yes I was following this with lots of interest while I was recovering from my heart attack, love to know what the status is

 
The workshop got extremely busy and the car was left lying outside under a cover then Paul decided that the car deserve more than that and sold it to a guy from Ireland

 
No shame really .like all Builds that happened that fast quality of the work suffers but not to worry it's now in my hands and will reappear shortly.. I didn't want to post any pictures of the car because it would have given many a person a heart attack speaking of heart attacks I hope you're recovering well from yours.....

 
Oh my that was a while ago, 2015, and heart surgery 2016, yes I appear to be doing quite well, the heart meds have given me diabetes as a bonus

so all the fun stuff apart from the cars has stopped, no more jam doughnut, and even worse no beer

I do dry January every year, after 2 or 3 weeks I'm not really missing it. But come 1st of Feb it tastes so nice, sorry....

 
Glad to hear your doing well and over the op ....at least you can still do your hobby (cars not beer ) and enjoy every minute of it ...sure Diabetes has it's advantages ...you have to watch what you eat so that means you'll be able to fit into the porsche 944 v8 youve read about for so long and take it for a spin when I bring it to the uk car show .....burn the tyres of it that's what it was built for 😊
